Race 1 – 09:30 –
1000m – 2YO Fillies Maiden Plate
Selections: 11 – 3 –
1 – 2 – 5
A number of unraced runners face the starter in the opener
on the card, making it that much more difficult to assess. SUPRINA, on the other hand, has appeared twice and she has plenty
of speed. With the benefit of experience under the belt, she will have plenty
of scope for improvement and deserves loads of respect. JEM JEM gave a good enough site in her recent trial and the
daughter of Unencumbered would have come on nicely after that outing. Her
father won the Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic RL, so she certainly has
the pedigree credentials to win early. Of the debutantes, GEE BEE ESS and ISLAND JOY
are well bred juveniles worth considering in all bets.
Race 2 – 10:00 –
1000m – Maiden Plate
Selections: 2 – 7 – 4
– 3 – 9
CHINA AFFAIR gave
a respectable site on debut earlier this month. The 3-year old son of Toronado showed
plenty of early speed in that run over this trip and with plenty of improvement
to come, he should be worth following here. ANNABETH has been knocking on the door prior to her last start,
when she clearly didn’t enjoy the soft underfoot conditions. That was her first
run after a rest and she should be a leading contender 2nd up, over
a trip where she has finished second twice from her three attempts. HOROWITZ has shown enough speed in both
starts over further to justify this drop back to the 1000m. The son of Written
Tycoon should have plenty of scope and must be included.
Race 3 – 10:30 –
1300m – Maiden Plate
Selections: 5 – 2 – 8
– 10 – 11
SCANTOON caught
the eye on debut, almost a year ago, when storming home from well back in heavy
going to fill third place. The son of Written Tycoon has a progressive look
about him, enough to win in a field like this one and he is worth following
first up after the lay-off. DEPONENT
has shown good improvement since that debut effort and the step up to 1300m
brings him right into the equation here. He lands a perfect draw and on his
current trajectory, will be looking to fight out the finish once again.
Race 4 – 11:00 –
2025m – 3YO & Up Maiden Plate
Selections: 6 – 5 – 2
– 7 – 10
HE’S RUN AWAY is
still maiden after 11 starts but he is in the kind of form that suggests he won’t
be a maiden for much longer, since returning this year. The son of Polanski is
going to relish this step up in trip and despite the wide draw, he will be
closing down the leaders with a big finish and should be able to convert his
current form into a win here. FLENSBURG
enjoyed returning under better underfoot conditions last time after they
clearly didn’t suit in that penultimate start. The step-up in trip clearly
suited and with the scope for improvement he should enjoy the extra here. Brad
Rawiller retains the ride and he must be included. ART MAJOR went close to winning when stepping up to the mile last
time, making it two seconds in a row. The son of Artie Schiller looks set to
enjoy this trip and with scope for improvement he rates a threat.
Race 5 – 11:30 –
2025m – 3YO & Up BM64 Handicap
Selections: 2 – 9 – 7
– 6 – 12
FLORIDA DREAM has
been in cracking form of late and the son of Sebring looks set to add to that
win tally here. He has a solid record over this trip, having won and finished
third from his three attempts so far and if overcoming gate 9, he should be a
major contender. LITTLE PHOENIX
deserves consideration after that eye-catching last effort over 2200m, against
this class of opposition. He is unbeaten in 2 attempts over this trip and with
Michael Walker retaining the ride, he should be a major contender.
Race 6 – 12:00 –
1200m – BM84 Handicap
Selections: 1 – 10 –
3 – 6 – 5
The value bet on the card is the top-weight, INN KEEPER. After that modest comeback
run in his penultimate start, he followed that up with a superb effort in
Listed company last time out, when stepping back up to the 1200m. Down in grade
for this outing, he has his peak run now and is certain to give his followers a
very good run for their money. VICTORIA
STAR
is a four-time winner from his 7 attempts so far. A lightly raced son
of Tavistock, he has picked up three of those wins over this trip and despite
the rise in class and lack of a run, he has the credentials to fight out the
finish. EASY BEAST has found some very good form in his last two starts since
dropping slightly in trip. He looks very well handicapped here and with the 3kg
claimer up, could be hard to catch if finding a soft early lead.
Race 7 – 12:30 –
1600m – BM64 Handicap
Selections: 5 – 4 – 1
– 3 – 2
ANNANICOLESNITZ
has produced three solid performances in her last three outings, when taking on
this class of opponents. The daughter of Snitzel should relish the slight step
up in trip on her Cranbourne debut and if building on her current form, she’ll
be one of the leading contenders at the business end. HIGH DONE drops slightly in trip after that super impressive win
last time out, when toying with his rivals in the closing stages. With two
seconds from his two attempts over the mile, the son of High Chaparral looks
the biggest threat to the top selection. DEELBRAKA
followed up that good return win with a well-deserved second last time out,
when facing this level of opposition. With this being his peak run back, he
will be cherry ripe and on his credentials over the mile he cannot be
discounted.
Race 8 – 13:00 –
1400m – BM64 Handicap
Selections: 4 – 6 – 9
– 8 – 1

The final race on the card has a very
competitive look about it and the tentative first selection goes to OFFICE JIM. He followed up that maiden
win in his penultimate start with another eye-catching performance las time,
when stepping up to this trip. He has his peak run after a rest here and will
be reunited with Jye Mcneil, for his 8th career start. If building
on that last effort, he will be very tough to oppose. SWEEPING THE BOARD has improved on that modest comeback run three
starts back, when returning for his first run this year. The step up in trip
has certainly helped and if overcoming that very wide draw, he should be
involved in the finish. SMITTEN is
bred to enjoy this step up in trip and he will be aiming to feature prominently
here, after a good win over 1200m last time. Brad Rawiller retains the ride and
they must be included.
