Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: PALADIN(6)
Jockey: MJ BYLEVELD – Trainer: Vaughan MARSHALL

The Vaughan Marshall yard holds a very strong hand in this small field. The pace or lack thereof is an obvious issue but the improving three-year old PALADIN still gets the nod to record his second career win. The Jay Peg gelding showed plenty of determination to win his maiden over nine furlongs in his penultimate run and he followed that up with a smart last performance over a mile on his handicap debut. He ran on strongly for a close 3rd in that first run after the gelding and will relish this rise to ten furlongs. The bay gelding has plenty of room for progress and he should go very close.

Race 4: VARUMBA(5)
Jockey: MJ BYLEVELD – Trainer: Vaughan MARSHALL

VARUMBA has shown promise from day one and she deservedly notched up her second career win, recently. She led all the way at Durbanville over 1300m last time and has plenty more to offer despite the resultant five pound penalty. The daughter of Var has her peak run and she may again enjoy the run of the race.

TOP BET

Race 5: CHEVAUCHEE(1)
Jockey: Bernard FAYD’HERBE – Trainer: Joey RAMSADEN

The imported filly CHEVAUCHEE landed the huge betting coup when she quickened smartly to win her debut over six furlongs on this track, three weeks ago. She would have come on appreciably from that effort and is bred to love this extra distance. The daughter of High Chapparal takes on much stronger on her handicap debut but she clearly has some class about her and could defy top weight. Her good draw is a major plus on her first venture around the turn.

Race 8: PIRANGI(4)
Jockey: Sean CORMACK – Trainer: Mike ROBINSON

PIRANGI has improved smartly since going over ground and she ran on strongly late when producing her career best effort over ten furlongs at Durbanville, four weeks ago. She was in turn, a length and a half in front of the five-year old mare CARRIE BOW CAY that day and has lots of room for further progress. She is 4kgs worse off at the weights with the latter, solely due to the fact that she won’t benefit from an apprentice claim but the daughter of Ideal World gets the services of a top class jockey and she should continue to improve. She will prefer a likely strong gallop.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 3: THE BEST OF ME(3)
Jockey: Donavan MANSOUR – Trainer: Mike ROBINSON

This is a tricky maiden contest with little separating the principle trio. THE BEST OF ME gets the narrow first verdict, courtesy of his career best run over this c & d, three runs back. The Western Winter gelding was returning from a long break that day but he ran on strongly for a close 2nd despite switching at a crucial stage. He probably needed his next start and then found six furlongs on the sharp side last time out. The Mike Robinson inmate races over his best distance today and could bounce back to form.
