Magic Tips Best Bets

TOP BET
Race 2: THE POET(4)
Jockey: Craig ZACKEY – Trainer: Mark Dixon

THE POET is a model of consistency and he captured the second leg of this series after a last gasp lunge over seven furlongs on this course four weeks ago. Admittedly, he prefers the shorter trip but has gone close over a mile previously and will benefit from a likely sedate gallop.

Race 4: FLYING SILVER(6)
Jockey: Marco VAN RENSBURG – Trainer: Garth PULLER

This is a highly competitive start to the Pick Six with the narrow first verdict going to the smart filly FLYING SILVER. The four-year-old has blossomed at the coast and she is clearly over her major issue that she had whilst on the Highveld. She probably should have gone even closer to winning her last start against male rivals but was surprisingly docked a pound in her rating. The bay filly posted a gallant 2nd, also against male rivals over this c & d prior to that and she jumps from the best draw here.

Race 6: SAND AND SEA(7)
Jockey: Anton MARUS – Trainer: Dennis DRIER

The local SAND AND SEA has expectedly been plunged into the deep-end after just one outing but such was the brilliant nature of his debut performance that he could be equal to the task. The Drier inmate was heavily supported and he raced green after jumping slowly but still produced a powerful burst to beat a classy field of winners, including AL MARIACHI, going away. The obvious concern is that this race comes too soon for him but he is clearly loaded with ability and should be followed with confidence.

Race 7: JUST SENSUAL(8)
Jockey: Anton MARCUS –
Trainer: Joey RAMSDEN

JUST SENSUAL is a top class daughter of Dynasty who blossomed throughout the Cape summer and she is versatile. She makes her local debut equipped with blinkers and this stiff six furlongs could play right into her hands. The bay filly can upstage the proven sprinters.

Race 8: JANOOBI(15)

Jockey: Craig ZACKEY –
Trainer: Mike DE KOCK

JANOOBI has developed into a top-class miler and his scintillating last victory in the Guineas at Greyville probably convinced his conditioner that this stiff test could suit the speedy bay colt who shoulders a low mass. Of course, he still has to prove himself over sprints at this high level but the son of Silvano may prove equal to the task at hand.

Race 9: HEAD HONCHO(12)
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM – Trainer: Willem A NEL

The Horizon formline over this trip on 23/04 could be worth following in this competitive handicap where the three-year-olds should have a big say. The Cape visitor HEAD HONCHO may have just needed his fair local debut when weakening late in the above-mentioned event but he is 2.5kgs better off with the 3rd placed entrant PALLADIUM for a 1.50 lengths deficit. Furthermore, the son of Querari is lightly raced and he will strip fitter. He has lots of scope for progress.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 5: CALL TO ACCOUNT(2)

Jockey: Piere STRYDOM – Trainer: Joey RAMSDEN

The promising filly CALL TO ACCOUNT appeared in need of her local debut earlier this month and she will be much fitter today. The speedy daughter of Captain Al weakened late against male rivals that day but that formline could certainly be worth watching, particularly in the next Grade 1 event. She will suit Strydom’s riding tactics and can bounce back to best.
