CALIFORNIA VANES is better than his below-par last effort. It is encouraging that Purton has kept faith in the ride and he is capable of returning to best form.

ETERNAL BLOOM finished positively over seven furlongs on this course last time when beaten half a length by Stunning Impact. He has cracked an inside draw and should appreciate the step up in distance. PALACE PAL was only beaten a neck by Toycoon last time and will just have to overcome the wide draw to have a say.

KA YING STAR is difficult to oppose after finishing runner-up in a Grade 1 last time. He comes in at the top of the weights, is likely to race on the speed and may be difficult to peg back at the wire. TOURBILLON DIAMOND finished a few lengths behind the top selection last time. There isn’t much between them at the weights and he could be one to fill the exacta spot.

BRILLIANT WAY is in search of a hat-trick and is in career-best form. He was a narrow winner over this C&D last time when defeating Buzzinga and despite his ascent in the ratings, should still be one of the leading contenders. He has ultra-consistent form to his credit and may still be ahead of the handicapper at this stage of his career. LUCKY PATCH produced a fair last run in a Grade 1 sprint last time and should appreciate the step up in distance. LUCKY EXPRESS finished right behind the second selection last time and has obvious claims.

TUCHEL is the top-rated horse in the race. He defeated Rainbow Light in fine fashion last time, is well-drawn and should take a power of beating despite having to shoulder top weight. AMAZING VICTORY was beaten half a length by WIDE BLUE YONDER last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights and can turn the tables on his recent conqueror.

ERIMO followed up his first-career win well when runner-up behind Shining Gem. He comes in with a light weight, has Moreira aboard and will have plenty of followers. EN POINTE is better than his below-par last run when setting the fractions. He has cracked a neat draw and is capable of returning to best form.

POWERFUL WINGS produced an eye-catching last effort when beaten half a length by Precise Express over this C&D. He has cracked pole, shoulders a handy galloping weight and definitely represents decent each-way value for Hong Kong racing pundits. ORIENTAL SMOKE followed up his recent win well when beaten half a length by Beauty Live. He is a horse that is clearly on the upgrade and can challenge the top selection in the lucky last!
