Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: FAVOUR’S PRIDE(10)
Jockey: Craig ZACKEY – Trainer: Corne SPIES

The speedy FAVOUR’S PRIDE was 2nd best in her second outing but that was over an extra furlong in a workrider’s event. She produced a bright debut behind a highly rated sort over this distance prior to that and could be tough to beat on this tight circuit. Her good draw is a huge advantage on her track debut and the Spies inmate still has lots of improvement to come.

Race 3: KING OF THRONES(2)
Jockey: Randall SIMONS – Trainer: Robbie SAGE

KING OF THRONES
is holding his form and he stayed on well for 2nd after setting the pace over this c & d last time out. The 4th placed runner Patang gave that form plenty of respectability with a subsequent victory and this bay gelding should strip fitter. He had EQUATOR just under two lengths further adrift and should confirm the form with the latter.

Race 4: RED REBEL(1)
Jockey: Randall SIMONS – Trainer: Paul MATCHETT

RED REBEL
is coming to hand and he made decent late headway after being drawn wide over this c & d in April. The runner-up Arpad has won subsequently which boosts the form and the Rebel King gelding can continue to progress, particularly from his good draw.

Top Bet
Race 5: CAPTAIN ALDO(1)

Jockey: Chase MAUJEAN – Trainer: St John GRAY

The best weighted CAPTAIN ALDO was outclassed at Grade 1 level last time but he had classy form in lower levels prior to that, including a last-gasp victory in a Grade 2 in his penultimate start. The son of Captain Al clearly improved this campaign and his conditioner has found the ‘perfect’ race for him to get back to winning ways. The five-year-old has a smart c & d record and he jumps from a good draw in this field. He should take all the beating.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 9: LAVENDER GIRL(12)
Jockey: Juan-Paul VAN DER MERVE – Trainer: Leon ERASMUS

LAVENDER GIRL
has quickly dropped back to a suitable merit rating and she could be a major threat, if repeating her c & d performance three runs back. She flew at the speedy Cataluga when pipped on that occasion but had two below-par subsequent efforts at a much higher rating. The four-year-old filly drops in class and she could stake a serious claim from her good draw.
