Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: REDBERRY LANE(1)
Jockey: L Hewitson – Trainer: S Tarry

The top class mare REDBERRY LANE worked hard for her seasonal debut triumph in lesser company but she would have come on extremely well with that outing and should enjoy the run of the race in this small field. That said, she should get huge competition from the equally talented CASCAPEDIA who after her eye-catching comeback triumph is now the Summer Cup favourite.

TOP BET

Race 4: COPPER JAY(2)

Jockey: J Sampson – Trainer: E Verdonese

The speedy COPPER JAY has a chance for redemption as he meets recent conqueror DONNY G on 2kgs better terms for a 1.30 lengths defeat but more significantly will prefer this drop to the minimum distance. The latter has forged a good partnership with Strydom and he should still be a lively threat despite his record over this trip indicating otherwise.

Race 6: GREEN PLAINS(1)

Jockey: S Khumalo – Trainer: S Tarry

The high quality filly GREEN PLAINS again impressed with her smashing turn of foot as she beat WRECKING BALL (1.5kgs worse off) comfortably over this distance on her seasonal debut last month. The Tarry inmate is still improving and she will strip fitter tonight. The latter flopped in a subsequent listed event in mixed company but is of course now facing her own sex and she could be a force with top rider Gavin Lerena engaged.

GREEN PLAINS(1)

R
ace 8: WILL PAYS(3)

Jockey: *Not Declared – Trainer: M Azzie

WILL PAYS ended last campaign on a high when he produced a strong finish to capture his first Grade 1 of his long career. The consistent and versatile gelding is no doubt preparing for a summer onslaught but he is well treated by the weights on his seasonal debut here and should be competitive.

VALUE BET

Race 3: KILRAIN(3)
Jockey: R Simons   – Trainer: M De Kock

The veteran gelding KILRAIN is threatening a ‘big performance’ and he moved up well before weakening over further in a listed feature recently so this drop in distance could suit him perfectly.
