Magic Tips Best Bets

Top Bet

Race 2: ROAD TO INDY(1)

Jockey: Ryan MUNGER – Trainer: Mike DE KOCK

ROAD TO INDY
has shown promise to date but more is expected from the son of Distorted Humor whose conditioner has had little option but to geld the three-year old. He has produced some quality runs behind decent sorts, including a close 2nd to subsequent Derby Trial winner Bankable Teddy in his penultimate start. The Mike de Kock inmate produced his career best effort over a mile and he races fresh and should go very close to winning.

Race 3: MISS WALES(1)
Jockey: Ryan MUNGER – Trainer: Geoff WOODRUFF

MISS WALES produced a much improved last effort over this trip in yielding conditions at Turffontein and she should build on that performance. She has experience on this track and should go well again.

Race 4: FINDING ALICE(6)
Jockey: Raymond DANIELSON – Trainer: Roy MAGNER

The Houdalakis yard holds a decent hand in this competitive handicap and the three-year old FINDING ALICE gets the narrow first verdict. She has always been highly rated by the stable and her two comeb- ack runs have been really pleasing. The daughter of Mogok only tired late into 3rd over this c & d five weeks ago and she had subsequent winner JULIE DOOLITTLE a neck further adrift. She meets the latter on 1kg better terms and could stake a serious claim on her third run back from a break.

Race 8: OCULUS(4)

Jockey: Ian STURGEON – Trainer: Lucky HOUDALAKIS

The ultra-consistent four-year old gelding OCULUS has produced quality form since being equipped with blinkers and he could still be ahead of the handicapper, despite a recent two pound hike. He completed back-to-back wins prior to an eleven week break and then picked up from where he left off with two smart comeback runs over this c & d. The son of Parade Leader now has his third run after the layoff and he is the one to beat.
VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 6: RED HEART(3)
Jockey: Craig ZACKEY – Trainer: Corne SPIES

The three-year old filly RED HEART is above-average and her last outing in KZN must be completely ignored as she was reportedly not striding out. She was given the necessary time-off to recover from the escapade and that run and she has her handicap debut today. The speedy daughter of Trippi showed plenty of class in two runs on this track and she trounced a decent field over this c & d in the maiden ranks, second time out. She will be severely tested with a big mass against hard-knocking male rivals but could be equal to the task at hand.
