Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: NO FILTER (12)
Jockey: C Habib – Trainer: D Nieuwenhuizen

NO FILTER made the expected natural improvement when third in her last start over this distance on the Classic course. She showed good speed, but was outrun late. The daughter of Canford Cliffs is a progressive type and in this line-up, she may be hard to peg back.

NO FILTER

Race 2: CAPTAIN WARA (2)
Jockey: P Strydom – Trainer: C Spies

CAPTAIN WARA should have won his last start as he hung and shifted away from the crop in the closing stages. He finished second on debut over 1100m on this course. Piere Strydom takes the ride and he should make amends.

CAPTAIN WARA

Race 3: TOTAL SURRENDER (9)
Jockey: C Zackey – Trainer: M Houdalakis

TOTAL SURRENDER caught the eye on debut over this distance at Turffontein. He took time to find his feet, but finished his race off strongly. The son of Flower Alley would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should take a power of beating.

TOTAL SURRENDER

Race 5: SWORD OF MERCY (1)
Jockey: S Khumalo – Trainer: J Soma

SWORD OF MERCY has shown good improvement in each of his outings to date. He raced from a handy position over this distance last time, but was caught late by Quantifier. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He is a progressive type and may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

Race 6: SILENT WAR (9)
Jockey: C Zackey – Trainer: J A Janse van Vuuren

SILENT WAR caught the eye in his stable debut over 1100m at Turffontein last time. He jumped inwards leaving the start, but the manner in which he finished off his race was encouraging. It is a positive that Craig Zackey keeps faith in the ride and if not too far out of his ground at the halfway mark, he can notch up his third career victory.
