Race 4: NIGHT ON THE HILL(1)
Race 8: IMPERIAL PARTY(17)

Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 3: QUATTRO(2)
Jockey: Craig ZACKEY – Trainer: Grant MAROUN

QUATTRO
could make his experience of racing down the straight count and he gets the nod to exit the maiden ranks in this competitive maiden contest. He was caught far out of his ground despite a good draw around the turn last time out but did manage some late progress. However, the Judpot gelding will much prefer racing down the straight today and he fought hard when collared late over this c & d in his penultimate effort. His yard’s runners are in good form and he merits healthy respect.

Race 4: NIGHT ON THE HILL(1)
Jockey: S’manga KHUMALO – Trainer: Sean TARRY

NIGHT ON THE HILL
has the best credentials in this ordinary maiden field and she should go close, if fit and well. She has posted her career-best efforts over this distance and her yard is enjoying a ‘purple patch’ over the past few months.

Race 6: MY TREASURE(5)
Jockey: Ian STURGEON – Trainer: Lucky HOUDALAKIS

MY TREASURE
probably didn’t enjoy blinkers on his return to the Highveld recently and his trainer has wasted little time in removing the headgear. Furthermore, the Right Approach gelding may have just needed the run after a trip to KZN. He certainly showed plenty of ability prior to that effort and fought on gamely to beat the useful Bulleting Home over this c & d, earlier this year. He was beaten a head by KING’S ARCHER (1.5kgs worse off) when finishing strongly in yielding conditions subsequently and can bounce back to that form today. The four-year-old gelding was recently dropped two pounds in his rating.

TOP BET
Race 8: NEVER GIVE IN(1)

Jockey: S’manga KHUMALO – Trainer: Sean TARRY

The three-year-old filly NEVER GIVE IN landed the betting coup with an impressive debut victory over this trip at Turffontein, five weeks ago. She quickened smartly on that occasion and the well-related daughter of Toreador clearly has plenty more to offer. She shoulders a big mass on her handicap debut but meets many ordinary rivals and should still go very close.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 7: DRAGOON(9)
Jockey: S’manga KHUMALO – Trainer: Clinton BINDA

This is a low-key sprint handicap with many runners representing the Alaca c & d formline on 29/03. It comes as little surprise to see top jockey Khumalo retain the ride on DRAGOON as this son of Trippi should have fared best of the rest in the event referred to above. He looked dangerous before faltering at a crucial stage on that occasion but still finished a creditable 3rd & may have escaped without a penalty. The Clinton Binda inmate can make amends in this contest.
