Super Rugby 2018: Brumbies v Sunwolves Preview

Super Rugby 2018: Reds v Waratahs Preview

The Brumbies and Sunwolves will go toe-to-toe in the final Super Rugby game before the June break on Sunday the 3rd of June.

The Brumbies will be looking for a massive morale boost when they take on the Sunwolves in Canberra this Sunday. The hosts have endured a torrid season and are already almost out of the running for a playoff berth.

Brumbies v Sunwolves
Sunday 3 June

Gio Stadium
08:05

To Win (80 Mins)
Brumbies 1/50
Draw 35/1
Sunwolves 10/1

Handicap
Brumbies (-29.5) 9/10
Sunwolves (+29.5) 9/10

Brumbies
2018 is certainly not the year of the Brumbies, as the once mighty Canberra outfit have struggled for any resemblance of form and now lie third on the Australian Conference some 11-points behind the conference-leading Waratahs. While there is still a mathematical possibility that they could overhaul the Waratahs, and claim a place in the playoffs, this is extremely unlikely to occur.

The visit of a second-strength Sunwolves side will offer massive relief to the hosts who actually come into this one-off the back of a moderately impressive 10-point victory over the Bulls at Loftus. If they can replicate that sort of performance, then they should have no troubles getting one over a very makeshift Sunwolves.

Sunwolves
Ah, you really have to feel for the Sunwolves. The Japanese side were robbed of all their national stars last week due to a Japan training camp. Their absence was extremely clear during last week’s 40-13 defeat to the Rebels, with the Melbourne side looking a lot fresher during the last stages of the match.

The Sunwolves have been robbed of yet more talent this week with talismanic centre Michael Little set to miss out through injury. The former Auckland Blues man has been a key cog for the Sunwolves, whose midfield will be much weaker without Little in the squad.

Verdict: Brumbies (-29.5) 9/10
I fear the Sunwolves forwards will be absolutely obliterated by their opponents here. The Brumbies proved they have a very effective rolling maul last week, and I can see this avenue of attack bagging them a host of five-pointers.
