We take a look at some of the statements coach Pitso Mosimane has said about Kaizer Chiefs this season.

1. “They are currently on good form and they are benefiting. Benni (McCarthy) was crying‚ I am busy crying‚ AmaZulu was complaining‚ Steve Komphela was complaining and even Owen Da Gama is complaining.

“Who doesn’t complain‚ they are having a jolly ride on top of the log. Sometimes I get a foul and sometimes I don’t get it, but they get the ones that decide games.”

He said this ahead of the top of the table clash between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs which Amakhosi won 2-0.

2. “The goal that they scored is off-sides. The last person to touch it is (Leonardo) Castro. We played under stress because they benefitted from the linesman’s mistake. I’ll give the benefit of the doubt if you play against AmaZulu or Golden Arrows or anybody. Against Kaizer Chiefs, there’s no benefit of the doubt, because they benefit a lot.

“When they benefit from referees’ mistakes…I don’t know if we are back to the ’80s, but all I’m saying is they are benefitting from referees’ mistakes. Even if it doesn’t look that much of an offside, when it’s Kaizer Chiefs, buckle up.”

This was after Chiefs had beaten Sundowns 2-0 and the tactician believed their first goal should have been ruled out.

3. “We don’t have to beat Kaizer Chiefs to win the league, there are 23 games (it’s actually 22) left for us, it’s okay, we can lose, so what!

This was one of his statements after the very same game

4. “Nine points difference, so what? You know how many points different was Kaizer Chiefs last year when we won the league? Did you ask (Ernst) Middendorp, because he was on the bench, did you ask him why it was 30 points difference, are you worried about that?”

‘Jingles’ said this when journalists asked him about the nine-point gap Chiefs held over his team sometime this season.

5. “We played six games in the Champions League group stages, the Telkom Knockout to the final, the MTN8 we played to semifinals. The competitors did not even play in the MTN8, they are fresh and strong, so they have to win the league. Chiefs have got no excuse.

It is like I am at school and doing 10 courses and you are doing three or four; at the end of the year you must pass because you did three”

He said this complaining about his team’s fixture congestion as they have to participate in the CAF Champions League.

6. “If you give me Amavarara and VUT all the way to the final and you give me TS Galaxy in the final, we can’t have an excuse. TS Galaxy in the final? I mean really, it is for you to take it. There was another one, Tornado FC and you only win in extra time. After Tornado there was another one, Magesi FC, given to you. Can I also have that?”

“I was wondering if Lux [September, PSL draw master] was doing that thing of feeling the hot and cold balls, or do they have the same temperatures [during the draw],”

Coach Mosimane was suggesting that the Nedbank Cup draw might be rigged as Kaizer Chiefs usually get lower tier sides while Sundowns used to come up against PSL teams.

7. “The 71 points we have done, I said we will never match that record at Sundowns. The way they are going for me it’s 75 points. The way I calculate it’s 75 points. Remember the 71 points we had was 22 wins out of 30. It’s a big one”

“They are on a roll, they are going well. Don’t be jealous. We can talk about other things that are linked to how they win games but at the end those are wins. Look at the log and be realistic.”

He suggested that Chiefs could win the league by a record number of points in the PSL era.
