Austrian Bundesliga: GW 23 Preview

Soccer ball on grass

The Austrian Football Bundesliga will resume their 2019/20 season behind closed doors on Tuesday 2 June 2020. Proceedings are delicately poised with two groups (Championship round and Relegation round) of six teams each, which will play a further 10 matches consisting of five home and away games against the respective teams in their group.

Survival is the priority for the Relegation group teams, however, there’s a lot to play for as the top two sides in the Championship round will qualify for the UEFA Champions League and the third and fourth spots will secure UEFA Europa League qualification.

Hopefully, we can cash in on the midweek football being played. Have a punt with our 10/1 treble or add some of our selections to your multiple.

Tuesday 2 June – Relegation round

Mattersburg 17/10
Draw 47/20
Altach 29/20
Mattersburg have lost the most games in the first stage of the league (14) and only the league’s bottom side has conceded more goals. Altach’s six-game unbeaten streak that comprised of four wins and two draws was ended in the last game before lockdown and are the top scorers in this group, scoring 36 goals. Use the Away to Win Either Half market and take (Yes) at 15/20.

Tirol 1/1
Draw 26/10
St. Polten 47/20
Tirol were in trouble with seven straight league defeats but managed to steady the ship with a three-game unbeaten run. St. Polten come into the clash winless in eight matches and were rooted to the bottom of log in the first stage. There were six goals scored the last time these opponents met, take Over 2.5 Goals at 6/10.

Austria Wien 8/10
Draw 11/4
Admira 29/10
Austria Wien are the draw specialists, sharing the spoils 11 times in 22 games played. They come into the clash with six consecutive draws and an unbeaten streak of nine matches. Admira have drawn four of their last eight league games and the last two meetings between these sides were stalemates. At 11/4, there’s enough evidence that it’s worth a punt.

Wednesday 3 June – Championship round

Sturm Graz 14/10
Draw 24/10
Wolfsberger 33/20
Sturm Graz have won just once in the last six competitive games, but have beaten Wolfsberger at the Lavanttal Arena on the opening day in August. Wolfsberger won twice from their last seven league matches and won the most recent meeting 4-0 in November. Use the Draw No Bet market and back Wolfsberger at 19/20.

LASK 1/7

Hartberg 13/1
LASK hosted Manchester United behind closed doors in the Europa League before games were halted and will be happy to return to league competition aiming to dethrone current champions Salzburg.
