Bafana face Algeria at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers in the invitational association football competition.

Hugo Broos’ experimental side were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw in their opening clash against minnows Andorra who are ranked 164th in the FIFA world rankings.

“Obviously we were disappointed as a team and we felt they (Andorra) were there for the taking,” Williams told the SAFA media ahead of Tuesday’s clash.

“We created so many chances, but in saying that it was a completely different team to the one that we’ve had for the past two years.

“There has been so many new faces, new players and players who have been here before and have now come back into the team.

“So, it was a completely new team and for us the main thing is we didn’t lose the game. Yes, we are disappointed that we didn’t win.

“Coach said he wants to give the new players a chance to show their talent and put their hand up, but the most important thing is to win.

“So, that is the only disappointment that we’ll take from that game, that we didn’t win the game.

“We felt we were strong enough to win, we created so many chances, but it’s one of those games where the coach had his reason for his approach to giving new players an opportunity to play.

“So, we don’t need to look too much into the result of that game.”

Many of the regular players who starred at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast will likely return to the starting line-up for Tuesday’s clash.

“Tomorrow’s game, we know it’s going to be a big one, they are the host nation and come off the back of a very bad AFCON.

“They’ve just appointed a new coach, and that can be very dangerous as their players would want to put their hand up and show that they can be counted on.

“We’ve prepared accordingly and are ready where we want to show why we finished third at AFCON and we want that consistency in our performances.”
