NEWS: Hugo Broos highlights ‘one problem in South African football’ as Bafana Bafana are held by minnows Andorra

Head coach Hugo Broos highlighted the one aspect South African football lacks despite being satisfied with the result after his experimental Bafana Bafana side were held by minnows Andorra.

Bafana found themselves behind as early as the fifth minute after back-up goalkeeper Ricardo Goss committed an unforced error when allowing the ball to roll under his foot to allow attacker Ricard Bitrui an easy tap-in into an empty net.

Broos’ side dominated large parts of the encounter as debutant Elias Mokwana converted that early pressure when scoring to save Goss’s blushes in the 25th minute.

Despite then being in the ascendency, Bafana failed to find a winner with the score ending in a 1-1 draw at the 19 May 1956 Stadium in Algeria.

“I think today showed again, and I think this is a problem in South African football, is that we really don’t have that [natural] goalscorer,” Broos said post-match.

“That guy who with one chance scores a goal.

“If you look at those six or seven chances we had today, in which we scored once.

“In games like these, you will always grind out a win if you are more aggressive, where you have more quality in front of goal, then you’d definitely win these games.

“But again, this is a minute detail in which I’m not satisfied, but overall I am really happy with a couple of players who satisfied me a lot.”

Bafana next face FIFA Series hosts Algeria in the invitational association football competition on Tuesday.

Kick-off is at 23:00.
