Sekhukhune United are up against AmaZulu FC in a DStv Premiership encounter scheduled to take place at Emirates Airlines Park this evening.
This is the first-ever league meeting between the two clubs.
Sekhukhune will be hoping to reclaim their top five position and possibly move into third after they slipped to sixth following Kaizer Chiefs’ 2-1 win over Supersport United at the weekend.
The home side head into this game only having lost twice in seven games which includes three wins to sit in sixth place on the log with 11 points. They are coached by MacDonald Makhubedu.
In their last outing on 16 October, Sekhukhune beat MTN8 finalists Cape Town City FC 1-0 thanks to a goal by Chibuike Ohizu in the 50th minute.
The visiting AmaZulu seem to be getting their act together after a slow start and currently are eighth on the log with 10 points from seven games losing only once. The visitors are now unbeaten in their last ten matches in all competitions.
The KZN side’s last outing was in the CAF Champions League where they drew 1-1 with DR Congo side TP Mazembe but won on the away-goal rule in Lubumbashi.
In an interview after their win over TP Mazembe on Saturday, AmaZulu coach Benni McCarthy said he was proud of his side with the confidence they were taking into each and every game.
“My team have a strong mentality and we’re absolutely delighted to be in charge of this group of players,” said McCarthy.
“We’re history makers, the first [AmaZulu] team to finish second in the league and the first team to qualify for the CAF Champions League group stages.
“But they showed me what I know when I see them every day [at training]. I saw heart, I saw character, I saw personality, I saw arrogance and I saw a football team not afraid of anything.”
