Banyana Banyana failed to in their bid to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games after a goalless draw at Loftus against Nigeria saw them go down 1-0 on aggregate.
Nigeria, who converted a penalty in the home leg on Friday, came with a set gameplan to stifle the home side on attack to protect their advantage.
The first half was an even contest as Banyana could not break down a stubborn Nigeria outfit that were content to sit back and wait for their opportunities on the counter.
The Super Falcons missed a glorious opportunity to open the scoring five minutes before half-time when Grace Kanu could not properly connect a floating ball that was delivered into the box.
The hosts’ star forward Thembi Kgatlana was completely nullified and did not get into the game at all as she was given precious little space to run into and use her pace.
Banyana up the tempo into after interval in search of the goal that would level the tie but seemed to always come up short in the final third.
Morocco and Zambia meet in their second leg on Wednesday to decide who will join Nigeria in France.
