Young Africans lodged an official complaint to CAF following their controversial Champions League quarter-final exit.

The Tanzanian giants suffered a 3-2 penalty-shootout defeat after the two teams couldn’t be separated over two legs.

Sundowns’ dramatic win appeared to be overshadowed by a controversial decision to not award the visitors a goal after initial TV replays showed that the ball had crossed the goalkeeper Ronwen Williams’ goalline.

VAR footage including goalline technology provided by beIN Sports proved that match officials made the correct decision with all of the ball not having crossed by the narrowest of margins.

There were mere millimetres between the ball crossing the line and Yanga securing their passage to the CAF Champions League semi-finals.

Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena remained diplomatic after the final whistle by refusing to be dragged into the controversy.

“I can empathise with him, feeling robbed is something every coach can understand,” Mokwena had said post-match.

“However, I prefer to focus on commending our opponents rather than delving into that discourse.”

Mokwena will now feel vindicated as his side will be aiming to book a spot in the competition’s finals when they face ES Tunis in a two-legged semi-final clash.
