Cheifs benefit from dodgy penalty call

Kaizer Chiefs came from behind in controversial circumstances to secure a 1-1 draw against a strong AmaZulu side at the Jonnson Kings Park. AmaZulu went ahead through a calm finish by Luvuyo Memela in the 48th minute and were full value for their narrow lead.

Chiefs couldn’t emulate the good first-half performance that showed clear intentions of winning a match and were denied by the brilliance of Veli Mothwa who made 3 good saves to deny Dolly, Parker and Billiat attempts. Chiefs, before this match, went throughout the entire month of September without winning a single match and were desperate to remedy this worrying stat.

AmaZulu on the other hand were also fighting against their own poor start, which saw them failing to score in three opening matches until they got their first win at home against Baroka, through a Bongi Ntuli penalty.

Chiefs would eventually secure the draw after being awarded a controversial late penalty which Dolly stuck away. Take a look at the incident below and decide for yourself…

Misery continues at TS Galaxy

Sekhukhune United pilled more pressure on cellar-dwellers TS Galaxy with a 1-0 win at the iconic Peter Mokhaba Stadium. Galaxy fired coach Owen da Gama last week after losing 4-2 against Royal AM at the Chatsworth stadium.

Having hired inexperienced German mentor, Sead Ramovic, Sukazi was hoping that the new man at the helm might inspire a turn-around for his side who have failed to register a win after six attempts this season. Ramovic, who was a former goalkeeper in his playing days, will be hoping to save TS Galaxy’s season which currently looks to be hanging in the balance.

Cape Town City hold Bucs to draw

Orlando Pirates went to Cape Town hoping to find redemption after they were outplayed at home by Sundowns last week. The Buccaneers went to Cape Town City with a changed lineup which saw new Nigerian signing, Oliseh Ndah partnering captain Happy Jele at the heart of defence.

It was captain Jele who opened the scoring with a header in the 13th minute following a Vincent Pule cross. In the 54th minute Cape Town City were rewarded with a penalty when Ndah was adjudged to have handled the ball inside his own penalty box. Mduduzi Mdantsane made no mistake from the spot and brought City level.

The two sides could not do more in the later stages to try and forge a win as both sides looked to cancel each other until the final whistle. Neither side has got their season off the ground yet

Royal AM splash the cash

Royal AM chairman Andile Mpisane caused a stir this weekend after handing out cash bonuses to his players in full view of television cameras following his side’s 2-1 win over Maritzburg United.

The move was met with mixed reactions across social media as the chairman dished out wads of R200 notes to his players. All of the off-field distractions aside, this Royal AM side look the real deal this season. After losing their opening two matches, they’ve stormed back up the table with four wins on the bounce – quite remarkable for a side who didn’t have a proper pre-season.

Platinum City Rovers humbled by AmaTuks

It was goals galore in the GladAfrica Championship as two home sides registered big wins and newcomers, Hungry Lions, continued with their impressive unbeaten run as they won 1-0 at home heating Free State Stars.

Richard Bay secured their second win of the season when they defeated TTM 4-0 at the Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu. Pitso Dladla’s men were under pressure to change the club’s fortunes having gone five consecutive matches without a win this season, failing to find the back of the net in four of those matches Uthongathi FC were defeated 1-0 in Thohoyandou by Venda Football Academy.

Platinum City Rovers were removed from the summit of the table by a humbling 4-1 defeat at the hands of University of Pretoria. Last week, the newcomers had suffered a 2-0 away loss, a first defeat of the season, at the hands of another Pretoria side, Pretoria Callies.

Still with Callies, the Romans condemned Jomo Cosmos with to 2-1 defeat to keep Ezenkosi rock bottom of the GladAfrica Championship.
