DSTV PREMIERSHIP: Cavin Johnson admits Kaizer Chiefs to take introspection following Chippa United defeat

Bienvenu Eva Nga opened the scoring at the Buffalo City Municipality Stadium after 21 minutes and Sinoxolo Kwayiba added a second to no reply with 32 minutes on the clock.

Amakhosi are now without a win in their past four league outings to leave the club down in eighth place on the DStv Premiership standings.

It is fair to question whether the Chiefs’ players should even have played the tie following the tragic death of Luke Fleurs on Wednesday, but the game nevertheless went ahead and Chiefs suffered their ninth defeat of the season.

Chippa, meanwhile, ended the afternoon in 10th place with 29 points; just a point adrift of their weekend opponents.

Speaking after the game, a downbeat Johnson told SuperSport: “As you said, one step forward, two steps backwards.

“I thought the first 20 minutes of the game belonged to us, we entered their area where we were supposed to score goals, probably five to six times.

“We break, we’re supposed to score but we don’t put it in the back of the net and then we suffer afterwards.

“Then we give away two goals, the first goal was very soft from an out-ball throw, the second goal we don’t put pressure on the ball and they also get into the box and they score two goals.”

Johnson, whose side take on second-from-bottom Richards Bay in their next game, added: “We’re going take two steps back now and come back and really, really work on what we’re trying to achieve, because right now we’re in a little bit of a hole, and the people that can get us out there are the players.

“So, we take inspection in the players and take ourselves out.”
