Cavin Johnson made several changes to his Chiefs side following their previous defeat in the DStv Premiership against Stellenbosch. Njabulo Ngcobo, Yusuf Maart, Christian Saile, Edson Castillo, and Ranga Chivaviro were all named in the starting line-up in an attempt to revitalise the team’s performance.

A promising start by Amakhosi saw them applying early pressure on Chippa, with Edmilson Dove and Chivaviro testing the opposition’s defence.

However, it was Chippa United who struck first, as Binevenu Eva Nga found the back of the net in the 21st minute, capitalising on a corner to give his side a 1-0 lead.

Chippa then doubled their lead to compound Chiefs’ misery in the 32nd minute through Sinoxolo Kwayiba’s clinical finish from the centre of the box.

Despite their desperate attempt to claw their way back into the contest, with Solomons and Saile coming close, Chiefs were unable to find a consolation goal.

Johnson introduced attackers Ashley Du Preez and Siyethemba Sithebe in the second half as the latter made an immediate impact in testing goalkeeper Darren Johnson with a dangerous attempt on goal.

The defeat means the Glamour Boys find themself in eighth position in the league standings with 30 points from 23 matches, while Chippa United sit just a point behind them in 10th place, also from 23 games played.
