The 24-year-old, who has played 10 games in all competitions this season with Amakhosi, scoring one goal, recently penned a new two-year contract with the DStv Premiership side.

He played 63 minutes of the shock loss to Milford in the Nedbank Cup and was a late substitute for Yusuf Maart in the goalless draw with Moroka Swallows on Saturday.

After the game, Johnson was quizzed about the appearance of Ngcobo, who appeared to be carrying a few extra kilos.

“I don’t think he is overweight, I think he is fine. He might look overweight, but we have people looking at all these things,” Johnson said.

“We have one of the best fitness centres in the country, we do all the measurements and everything has come out perfect. He may look fat but he is not fat, he is normal. Who are we as outside people to decide whether a person is fat?”

Chiefs have now not won in their last three games to sit in sixth on the league standings with 26 points from 18 games.

Johnson’s underperforming team are next in action against Golden Arrows on Tuesday.

The interim head coach added: “It has always been a concern (scoring goals) since I started coaching. It is only nice when you see goals. All my life, I said ‘If you score two, I score three, if you score six, I score seven’. It is something we work on continuously. If we work on it, it will come right.

“It is (also) a mentality thing. All you guys are writing, talking, TikTok-ing, tweeting. When that is the generation of athlete, it is all about these things you like to do. Maybe I need to do it (too) and the strikers will get better.”
