Chiefs have failed to clinch a win in 2024 and crashed out of the Nedbank Cup after an upset to minnows Milford FC.

Johnson’s side were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw at home by rivals Moroka Swallows in a Soweto derby on Saturday.

The result means Amakhosi are languishing in sixth position in the standings with 26 points, a huge 16 points behind DStv Premiership leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

“Besides being a Kaizer Chiefs player, it’s a privilege to just work for this club,” Johnson said.

“Knowing the history of this club, that’s why we say the jersey hangs so heavy [on the player’s shoulders] is because the generations before brought success.

“Where in the last eight years, there has been very little success. We’ve probably gone through two generations of players who have gone through the same thing we are going through now.

“We do believe now we have a strong generation at the club and have to teach them about the previous generation.

“We do have in our midst, people who you don’t necessarily see who are trying to emphasise what it means to be this generation of Kaizer Chiefs player.

After crashing out of the Nedbank Cup the club now looks like extending the nine-year trophy drought since the 2014/2015 season under Stuart Baxter.
