The first half of the match saw City take a commanding lead, thanks to strikes from Oswin Appollis and Ndamulelo Maphangule, much to the delight of coach Lehlohonolo Seema. These early goals set the tone for the encounter.

The second half brought more woes for Hunt’s SuperSport United, as Hlayisi Chauke netted twice to wrap up an emphatic win for Polokwane. Terrence Dzvukamanja scoring a late consolation goal for Matsatsantsa.

With this victory, Rise And Shine secured a spot in the quarter-finals, joining the ranks of TS Galaxy, Orlando Pirates, Golden Arrows, Stellenbosch, AmaZulu FC, Sekhukhune United, and Richards Bay.

Gavin Hunt and his team now shift their focus back to the CAF Confederation Cup, putting their Carling Knockout Cup disappointment behind them.

Reflecting on the match, Coach Hunt expressed his disappointment, saying, “This game is a missed opportunity, so we’re disappointed. I’m very disappointed, but it is what it is. We can’t take the fact that we’re lying third in the league, and we finished third last season with the same bunch of players.

“We’re punching way, way above where we should be. But you don’t expect a result like this. We should be better, far better, and weren’t.”

The defeat served as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of football, as SuperSport, despite their strong league standing in third place, found themselves outplayed by Polokwane on this occasion.
