Cavin Johnson vacated his role as head of the Chiefs academy to be placed in temporary charge of the Soweto Giants following the departure of former head coach Molefi Ntseki.

Ntseki oversaw just 13 matches before Johnson took over, who after initially making a positive impact, recent results have nosedived.

Chiefs have this season suffered highly-publicised defeats in the first round of the Nedbank Cup to minnows Milford, and in the first round of the Carling Knockout Cup to AmaZulu. While crashing out of the MTN8 semi-finals to Mamelodi Sundowns.

With now just seven fixtures of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season to play, find themselves in eighth place with just eight victories from 23 matches.

“There is definitely. It’s something we’ve communicated from the onset, Cavin has stepped in on an interim basis and we’re [committed] to having a different technical structure next season,” Motaung told the Sowetan.

“I know we are focused on the next game and the next seven games and we have everything to play for. But yes, definitely the plans have long been in motion. we’ll have a different technical structure next season.”

Motaung remained guarded on potential candidates to assume the vacant head coach position.

“Well, you know, it’s our shortlist but who makes that shortlist? From our side, we’ve been preparing for a while now and at the appropriate time we’ll make the right announcements,” Motaung added.

“Like I said, the wheels have been in motion for quite a while now. We’re also not just looking at it as if it’s a one-man coach; we’re looking at it in terms of what we need and we’ll be making all the changes we need to make that are going to make us successful.”
