Sundowns have barely put a foot wrong so far this season after winning both opening fixtures in the league as well as progressing to the semi-finals of the MTN8. They host Golden Arrows in a fiery DStv Premiership clash – looking to make it three from three.

They are a very tactical side who insist on letting the ball do the work for them, and they are extremely patient with their build ups. I expect Rhulani Mokwena to bring out the same 11 that started against Sekhukhune United on opening day, with one or two changes to the backline or frontline.

But the deadly combination of Mokoena and Allende in the middle of the park will be a true test for Arrows’ Gumbi and company, and that is where the game will be won or lost on the day.

To Win Match
Mamelodi Sundowns 9/20 | Draw 3/1 | Golden Arrows 54/10

Golden Arrows have been displaying a pretty attractive brand of football under Vilakazi this season, and this game has probably come at the right time for them to assess how far they’ve come.

They will also have Brandon Theron available for selection after the former Maritzburg United winger officially joined the club on the 11th of August. Speaking of flanks, their fullbacks will have their work cut out for them with Thapelo Maseko and Mudau constantly making darting runs that almost always end with a cross into the opposition box.

Arrows’ strengths will come from up top where the quick feet of Mutizwa will look to give Lebusa some trouble at the back, and most importantly Ryan Moon and Siyanda Mthanti who have both scored this season.

Verdict: Sundowns – 9/20

A great game is on the cards here as Mamelodi Sundowns are looking to cement their spot at the summit of the log earlier on in the season, and I back them to overcome Arrows in this cracker.

Still, I do expect Abafana Besthende to stand their ground and have a go at the reigning champions.
