Race 1: ANNOUNCING RAIN(2)
Jockey: Lyle HEWITSON – Trainer: Michael AZZIE
The speedy ANNOUNCING RAIN wasn’t disgraced at Grade 1 level last time and she drops heavily in class this evening. She clearly found the trip too far for her in her penultimate run but that first experience of this tight circuit will be a major plus. The Mike Azzie inmate will easily overcome her awkward draw and she represents good value in this field. There are some improving sorts who will provide competition for her though.
Race 3: ANNIGONI(2)
Jockey: MJ BYLEVELD – Trainer: Vaughan MARSHALL
As expected, ANNIGONI benefitted from his comeback run and he bounced back to form with a strong performance at a slightly higher level a fortnight ago. The Cape visitor finished strongly for a close 2nd over the seven furlongs at Scottsville and he now has his peak effort. He will prefer this extra furlong and this track should suit his running style. He is the yard’s solitary entrant on the card and is the one to beat from a decent draw.
Race 4: ROY’S VACATION(7)
Jockey: S’manga KHUMALO – Trainer: Alyson WRIGHT
ROY’S VACATION clearly benefitted from his debut experience and he made smart improvement over this c & d, second time out. He was again slightly slow into stride but ran on well for 4th, beaten just over two lengths at the line. That formline was given a boost when the 3rd placed finisher One O Won posted an easy subsequent victory. This son of Bezrin returns from a short break and he could certain- ly build on that effort. He gets the expert services of champion jockey elect S’manga Khumalo and is the one to beat in an ordinary field.
Race 7: FLY BY NIGHT(10)
Jockey: MJ BYLEVELD – Trainer: Mike BASS
A classy field has assembled for the renewal of this popular Grade 2 Sprint where yet another exciting finish is expected. The Mike Bass charge FLY BY NIGHT once again came alive in the winter in this province as she bounced right back to form with an excellent last Grade 1 effort at Scottsville. She ran on strongly for 2nd that day and will now be cherry-ripe on her third run back from a break. The daughter of Jet Master wasn’t disgraced when finishing 4th at the highest level in her only track appearance behind the brilliant Captain Of All and she is best in at the weights. Furthermore, she is well drawn and is her conditioner’s only entrant on the night. There are many form runners to give her cheek but the speedsters could harm each other’s chances and the likely suicidal pace will suit those horses who finish well.
