International Racing: Saturday 02 May 2020 – Randwick-Kensington

International Racing: Thursday 30 April 2020 – Cairns

Despite no features on the programme, there is a fair amount of quality racing to look forward to at Randwick on Saturday 2nd May 2020. JAILBREAK should be one of the more confident bets to follow, when he lines up in the 3rd race on the card. Thereafter, HIGHTAIL finds himself in a relatively competitive race, but he drops slightly in class and should feature on the back of a decent effort last time. See more here.

Race 3 – 04:50 – 1400m – Class 3 Handicap
Selections: 3 – 2 – 8 – 4 – 10
The first three picks all stem from the same form line in their last start, back on the 18th April 2020. That was a 1200m Class 3 event when TORO TORO finished close up in 2nd from a prominent position throughout. JAILBREAK finished 1,5-lengths behind the former after making good late headway from midfield. The son of Rubick will be better suited to the step up to the 1400m here and looks likely to reverse the finishing order and just about win this. FOXIE LA BELLE found traffic when finishing behind the top two last time out and the mare will be looking for better luck in running this time, from a very tricky draw. With two seconds from two attempts over this trip, she should go right into contention this time around.

Race 4 – 05:25 – 1000m – 3 and 4-Year-Old BM72 Handicap

Selections: 9 – 5 – 1 – 2 – 7
L’COSMO just missed last time out in a similar class, when having her second run after a rest. Caught deep without cover, she still managed challenge strongly and from a much-improved draw this time she should go right into contention. FITUESE has won three from five so far and she certainly looks like a progressive daughter of Deep Field. She disappointed in a Listed event last time out and that was all the way back in December. Having won her most recent trial last month, she shouldn’t have too many fitness doubts and her followers can expect a big performance at this level. WITHERSPOON has been in good consistent form prior to that last start which can be overlooked being in heavy conditions. James McDonald takes the ride this time and if repeating that course and distance attempt in her penultimate start, she should be one of the prominent contenders in the closing stages.

Race 5 – 06:05 – 1100m – BM78 Handicap

Selections: 6 – 5 – 3 – 1 – 10
BURNING CROWN returns for his follow up attempt after winning over this trip last time out, first up after a rest. The form line of that run has worked out, with Epic Dan since coming out and winning. With two wins and two places from six attempts over the 1100m, the son of Helmet will be looking to add to that record, and he should have a very nice chance of doing so here. DIRTY WORK arrives on the back of a good win last time out, taking his record over this course and distance to two wins from three attempts. With just 11 career starts to his name, the 3-year old son of Written Tycoon has scope for more improvement and should be a big challenger here. KYLEASE and MISS INVINCIBLE have both scored over this trip and at a similar level. From useful barrier positions they should feature prominently.

Race 6 – 06:45 – 1300m – F&M BM78 Handicap

Selections: 5 – 7 – 1 – 3 – 8
ROCHA CLOCK has some decent form and the 3-year old daughter of Pierro drops back in class after things didn’t quite go her way in Group 3 company last time out. She will be looking to settle a bit better over this slightly reduced trip and with Hugh Bowman up she has a very good chance of building on her career record of three wins from five attempts. MY DEMETRA has gone close to winning in her last two starts, in a similar class. She has only missed the first three places once from her ten career outings and the daughter of Camelot has the credentials to fight this out with the top selection.

Race 7 – 07:25 – 1250m – BM88 Handicap

Selections: 8 – 9 – 5 – 3 – 1
HIGHTAIL has a good record over this sort of trip and he will be looking to build on that solid effort in his last start, against stronger. Retaining the ride, Hugh Bowman knows the son of Written Tycoon well and from off the early speed he will be charging home late. He looks the likely winner in this field. HILO also drops back in trip after a solid effort last time out, following up from a solid third in Listed company prior to that. He too has a solid record over this trip and with Rachel King retaining the ride from a plum draw, the son of Lonhro should be the biggest danger to the top selections.

Race 8 – 08:05 – 1400m – BM88 Handicap

Selections: 12 – 3 – 10 – 6 – 2
BANDERSNATCH looks the class horse in this field having notched up four wins from his eight career starts. He has followed up his latest win with two solid trials, so fitness shouldn’t be a question mark for the son of Casino Prince. Having won first up before, the trip will suit, and he should be one of the better bets on the card with Brenton Avdulla retaining the ride. PHAISTOS was impressive when returning to racing for his first run after a rest in stronger company last time out. He returns to the same trip with Hugh Bowman regaining the ride and if finding luck in running from a very tough draw, he should be involved in the finish. ASHARANI gets the blinkers fitted this time, after a below par effort last time over this trip. That was her peak run after showing up well in useful company in her two starts prior to that latest run and if finding that form she will go much closer here. The draw is a concern, but she has the credentials to feature.

Race 9 – 08:45 – 1550m – BM78 Handicap

Selections: 9 – 6 – 13 – 5 – 10
AGASSI has been in solid recent form so far this year and he will be looking to convert that into a win on his return to a course and distance where he has enjoyed a fair amount of success. With a win a and two seconds from his three attempts over this track and trip, the 4-year old son of Pierro lands another good draw and the services of Nash Rawiller who should get the best out of him. He should be the right one to follow in the final race on the card. JUVENTUS was an impressive winner last time out and looks well prepped for this slight rise in trip. Despite not winning over this trip in his two attempts to date, he is yet to be unplaced over the 1515m and with Hugh Bowman engaged to ride the son of Hard Spun, he deserves plenty of respect. CALIFORNIA SALTO came from far back to finish in a respectable 5th place last time out, confirming her suitability to the step up in trip. She tries slightly further here, but the 3-year old daughter of Fastnet Rock is bred for this sort of ground and with the form and scope to back up her claims, she must be included from a near perfect draw.
