International Racing: Tuesday 12 May 2020 – Taree

An eight-race programme is scheduled for Taree on Tuesday. The best bet is IRISH THUNDER in Race 1. He was an impressive winner on debut over this course and distance. He would have gained from the experience and could be anything. He should take a power of beating with Andrew Gibbons retaining the ride.

Race 1
IRISH THUNDER was an impressive debut winner over this
course and distance. He picked up the lead at the 400m mark, kicked well and
kept going all the way to the line. It must be noted that the form of that race
has been franked. The son of Night Of Thunder would have come on from the run
and he looks to have some class about him. From his good draw of two, he looks
tough to beat. LUCKY SHADOW is a filly taking on the males. She won on
debut and followed that up with a decent third place finish, both over this
distance. She makes her course debut this afternoon and if suited to the track,
she should be right there in the run down to the finishing post.
Race 2
OMAKA is the value bet on today’s programme. He
produced a fair debut effort, was given a 47-week break and returned with a
fair comeback run when finishing just over two lengths behind the winner over
1300m on this course. The manner in which he ran on up the straight in his last
start was encouraging. The son of Olympic Glory should strip a much fitter
horse this afternoon and with Jeff Penza retaining the ride, he should be the
one to cause the upset. JAY’N’JAY
has good recent form to his credit.
He moved up like a winner in his last start but found one too good on the day.
It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Jockey Chris
O’Brien knows him well and the pair merit healthy respect.
Race 3
DR COPPER showed good improvement when returning from a
51-week break in his last start. He raced from a handy position that day and
stayed on well at the business end. It must be noted that the form of that race
has been franked. The son of Sizzling should strip a much fitter horse this
afternoon and with Amelia Denby staying aboard, he should find himself in the
winner’s enclosure. HYPERLINK is a filly taking on the boys. She made the
natural improvement in her last start when finishing third. She returns from a
23-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. There should
be no concerns with regards to fitness as she has had two fair barrier trials
coming into this race. Andrew Gibbons takes the ride on her return and the pair
must be included in all bets.
Race 4
RED LIGHT DANCER may not have seen out the seven furlongs of
her last start. She set the pace that day and found nothing in the home
straight. The daughter of Choisir is likely to enjoy the drop back in distance.
She gets the services of a 2kg claiming apprentice and from her wide barrier
position, she is likely to use her early gate speed to get across without using
up too much energy. MAGIC
ATTITUDE
produced a decent comeback
run over the minimum trip at Tamworth. The manner in which she finished off the
race that day suggests that she will enjoy the extra distance on offer this
afternoon. Jockey Jeff Penza has a decent 23%-win strike rate for this trainer
and the daughter of Magic Albert must be included in all bets.
Race 5
ANY WISH just got up to win her maiden race over seven
furlongs at Kembla Grange last time. Despite not settling in the early stages,
she chased solidly all the way to the line and got the victory. She does take
on stronger today, but she looks progressive and should have more to come. She
has placed over the mile in the past and has a good chance of notching up the
double today. It is encouraging that Andrew Gibbons does duty. BANDAHARA produced two good runs since given a 20-week break. He may have cost
himself winning last time as he hung in up the straight. He steps up to the
mile for the first time and the manner in which he finishes off his races
suggests that the extra distance should be up his alley. If keeping on a
straight line, he should be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the
top selection.
Race 6
ROY’S COMMAND has not finished too far off the winner in
recent outings. He was beaten by the narrowest of margins in his last start
over this course and distance. Andrew Gibbons has a good record aboard the son
of Commands having won twice and finishing second once from as many starts. If
managing to overcome his wide barrier position today, he should be the one they
all have to beat. EUROGEM’S last two starts have been very good. She ran
on well up the straight in her last start when finishing third over 1300m on
this course. If repeating that effort from her good barrier position of three,
she should be right there in the run down to the finishing post.
Race 7
EMPEROR’S STAR is much better than her last start over six
furlongs at Newcastle suggests. She is much better suited to today’s distance
as she has won once, finishing second once and third twice from five attempts.
The daughter of Holy Roman Emperor gets the services of a 2kg claiming
apprentice today, which should help her cause. From barrier position four, she
should take a power of beating this afternoon. HAPPY MO showed good signs
of returning to best form in her last start. It must be noted that she won her
only attempt over this course and distance. Her wide draw should not pose an
issue as she will use her early gate speed to get across without using up too
much energy. She may be hard to peg back in the closing stages.
Race 8
MUMMENTUM’S last two starts have been good. She moved up
like a winner in her last outing over 1500m at Ipswich but was swamped late
when going down by just a head. She has won once and finished second twice from
four attempts over this distance. She has a good record under today’s
apprentice jockey Samantha Clenton, having won twice and finishing second once
from as many starts. If able to overcome her wide barrier position, she may be
the one they all have to beat.
LUGA LAD
got back to winning ways on
this course when returning from a 17-week lay-off. He likes racing over this
distance having won three times, finishing second once and third once from
eleven attempts. Jockey Christian Reith has a good 33%-win strike rate for this
trainer. Despite his wide barrier position, he must be included in all bets.
