Will Rogers Downs Best Bets Monday

Race 3 (Allowance)
No5 YOUNG HENDRICK
Trainer: Karl Broberg – Jockey: David Cabrera

On third run since joining the Broberg barn, YOUNG HENDRICK
can better his recent solid runs in defeat against some admittedly in-form
rivals. The five-year-old hasn’t been short of support on those occasions, and
his followers may get better value from him in this higher grade. Drawn
alongside him, the game and consistent Valiant Appeal figures to make it this
time lucky following two near-misses for his new trainer. He’s used to this
level, as is the case with VISUAL PUNCH, who when returning from a protracted
absence took out one of these last month.

Prediction: 5-4-7

Race 4 (Starter Optional Claiming)
No8 MULBERRY
Trainer: Jon Arnett – Jockey: Leandro Goncalves

MULBERRY may be getting longer in the tooth but the mare has
proven a winner machine in putting together a four-race sequence since last
November. Those include an optional claimer and an allowance here, so that she
now defends a two race unbeaten record at the track. Goncalves has developed a
fine understanding with the mare and the combination can prove too strong for
Karate Hottie, who regularly attracts support and has started at 13-8 or less
for six of her seven starts for the Broberg barn. Miss Perfecta had her winning
run halted by Mulberry last time, and its difficult to envisage a change.

Prediction: 8-4-6

Race 8 (Starter Optional Claiming)
No8 PAPA MAMBO
Trainer: Greg Eidschun – Jockey: Floyd Wethey Jr
In two barn moves off the claim in a 20-month period PAPA
MAMBO
has never failed to menace in eight starts. This includes an allowance
win as well as three good efforts in defeat at Turfway Park, before her move to
the Eidschun team. She has it in her to surprise a few people, breaking from a
wide post but having a couple of her main foes either side of her. This
comprises Ten Count Out who came good for the Broberg barn on second start
here, and also Alex’s Bourbon who is very effective here, as well as being less
exposed. The latter’s hot streak should ensure she is right there, and the main
threat to Papa Mambo.

Prediction: 8-9-7

Race 9 (Handicap)
No7 STEPHEN’S ANSWER
Trainer: Robertino Diodoro – Jockey: Ty Kennedy

After completing a fine hat-trick on his first three starts
for Diodoro last fall, STEPHEN’S ANSWER has consolidated this year and figures
to get back the losses sustained on him in an allowance at this track at the
end of April. It was the second time running he’d been rolled at a shade of
odds-on, but I fancy he will make no mistake this time. He could find Tour de
Force, a hugely consistent performer on the New York circuit, as the main
stumbling block to another success. Also worth putting in is Eagle Pass, who
made the perfect start to his spell here and was a frequent winner when also
stationed in that metropolis.

Prediction: 7-5-3

Longchamp (Paris) Best Bets Monday

Race 3 – No14 – THE GOOD MAN (Each Way)
Trainer: Stephane Wattel – Jockey: Theo Bachelot

The promise THE GOOD MAN has shown in four maidens can manifest
itself on his first venture into handicap company. The Manduro colt has done
plenty of work on the all-weather and grass tracks at Deauville, and typical of
his sire’s offspring will relish rain. It’s been wet in Paris over the laat
weekend and the more it continues, the better his chance. He also has a good
midfield draw to give his pilot options. As one would expect, it’s a
competitive heat and Andre Fabre’s GANBARU is a must include following his
placed effort at Chantilly before the cessation of racing. FIBURN F was beaten
just over two lengths in a conditions race and affords respect off top weight,
while YOUNG MAN is capable of taking home a slice of the cake if ready after
his break.

Prediction: 14-5-1-4

Race 4 – No1 – CORONADO BEACH
Trainer: Anastasia Wattel – Jockey: Gregory Benoist
Under a double penalty the promising CORONADO BEACH can take
out this conditions race following a lay off of exactly 200 days. The Toronado
colt gamely held on for a short-head success on debut for his trainer at Deauville
last autumn, and has developed both physically and mentally through the winter.
He shouldn’t be far away from full fitness, while expected to improve for the
run. The two unbeaten fillies in the field are also worthy of inclusion. CHORBA
stylishly delivered on her Deauville introduction before Christmas and is
greatly respected for trainer Jean-Claude Rouget, while SPEAK OF THE DEVIL also
won decisively on her own first start at the same track. The Fabre runner
MAZAGRAN is a potential improver off one promising run, and goes in.
Prediction: 1-6-8-7
Race 6 – No2 – KHAYZARAAN
Trainer: Freddy Head – Jockey: Aurelien Lemaitre
The Group 3 Prix de La Grotte should shed some light onto
the Pouliches (French 1,000 Guineas) and two fillies set to dominate are
TROPBEAU and KHAYZARAAN. Tropbeau took out a Group 2 at the Deauville Festival
before finishing third in the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket. The
daughter of Showcasing is clearly classy and has worked well in Chantilly.
However, Khayzaraan greatly impressed when winning a Chantilly conditions race
by four and a half lengths last September, and as a daughter of Kingman carries
great expectations for owner Sheikh Hamdan. DREAM AND DO is perhaps the joker
in the pack as she got better with each run at two, while QUIET TIMES popped up
at big prices in both her maiden and a Listed race and needs respecting.
Prediction: 2-5-7-8
Race 7 – No9 – SOUDANIA (Each Way)
Trainer: Freddy Head – Jockey: Aurelien Lemaitre
The Group 2 Prix D’Hoquart has some outstanding names on its
roll of honour, and that of SOTTSASS would not be out of place considering his
exceptional three-year-old campaign that included victory in the French Derby
and third in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. It will be a major shock if the
Sijouni colt doesn’t make a winning start to the campaign but SYRTIS is one
that can make a race of it. Two near-misses at Group 3 level last year stamp
the son of Frankel as useful, and any losses sustained then were recouped when
he powered home   at Saint-Cloud in November. Hat-trick seeking filly
SIMONA went 2 from 2 after having blinkers to replace a visor and could find
further improvement. However, SOUDANIA numbered a Listed and a Group 3 amongst
her success for Head last year and looks the obvious alternative should
anything go wrong with the favourite.
Prediction: 9-1-4-7
