NEWCASTLE
Race 3 No9 RAISE THE ROOF (Nap)
Trainer: James Tate – Jockey: Joe Fanning
The money that went west on debut for RAISE THE ROOF here last month can now be recouped with interest. The Free Eagle filly ran green in a race won by Kestenna that’s probably a fair bit hotter than this. The winner is a smart filly and if going forward the selection will be hard to beat.
Race 5 No3 KINDLY
Trainer: Robyn Brisland – Jockey: Ellie Mackenzie
Kyllachy mare KINDLY has been round the block a few times but with improvement in each of her three outings for this trainer is now ready to strike. She showed her ability to cut the mustard at this level when in the money at Lingfield last time.
WOLVERHAMPTON
Race 5 No1 DAZZLING DES
Trainer: David O’Meara – Jockey: Shane Gray
DAZZLING DES is an appealing proposition from a cracking draw on the fence, and can make light of top weight in this sprint. A course and distance winner whose races away from the all-weather circuit are few and far between, he signaled with a narrow defeat here on New Year’s Eve that he’s on the cusp of a return to the winner’s circle.
Race 6 No1 DECLARING LOVE
Trainer: John Butler – Jockey: Adam Kirby
This looks a good opportunity for DECLARING LOVE to open her account on debut for her trainer. The beautifully-bred daughter of Dubawi placed in three visits to Newmarket for Godolphin before encountering a defeat on her all-weather debut switched to a handicap at Kempton. Her form puts her head and shoulders above her rivals.
Race 7 No4 CHOOSEY (Nap)
Trainer: Mick Easterby – Jockey: Joanna Mason
The success here by CHOOSEY early last month was a welcome return to form for the powerful sprinter who has a new jockey taking 5lb off his back from a good place in the gate. Now that he’s come out of the wilderness there should be more to come from the six-year-old.
Race 8 No9 JEFFREY HARRIS (Each Way)
Trainer: Paul Webber – Jockey: PJ McDonald
JEFFREY HARRIS probably needed his race at Kempton last month which was a first in ten months for the Orientor gelding, and first for this trainer. He has win and place claims if stepping up from that underwhelming effort. He will be fitter, has a good draw and an eye taking jockey in the plate.
