Beverley Best Bets
Race 3: DEW POND (8)
Trainer: Tim Easterby
Jockey: Duran Fentiman
Getting weight from all his rivals, dual-purpose performer DEW POND is on a recovery mission after failing to justify market support at a lower grade last time. He needs to bounce back but can do so if enjoying the rub of the green in a tightly-knit handicap.
Race 4: BIT OF A QUIRKE (9)
Trainer: Mark Walford
Jockey: Andrew Mullen
There are few more consistent performers than BIT OF A QUIRKE who completed a hat-trick here a year ago before scoring at Chester. This season he’s found it harder to put his head on front but again showed his well being when second on a return to the Roodee last time. He receives weight from all eight foes and is ready to win.
Brighton Best Bet
Race 3: LIGHT OF AIR (2)
Trainer: Gary Moore
Jockey: Louis Garoghan
LIGHT OF AIR can turn the tables on Seaborn who proved his master in an apprentices’ race at Windsor last week. He has the ability to gain a deserved first win of the year even though Seaborn escapes a penalty for that triumph. He enjoys a 4lb pull for a length and a quarter while his trainer has a superb record at this, his local course.
Newbury Best Bets
Race 6: CITY WANDERER (9)
Trainer: Mick Channon
Jockey: Silvestre de Sousa
One of the least exposed in the field, CITY WANDERER will be a big price and almost certainly has more to give, having run green when nibbled at in the market at Goodwood last time. He breezed beautifully up the all weather strip at West Ilsley yesterday and the booking of champion jockey de Sousa takes the eye as he steps up to a mile.
Race 7: KEEPER’S CHOICE (3)
Trainer: Denis Coakley
Jockey: Oisin Murphy
KEEPER’S CHOICE usually needs a run to come to the boil and should be sharper for an encouraging comeback effort at this course when third to Wind In My Sails. Under identical conditions it will be hard to keep the selection out of the frame in an admittedly open handicap.
