Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets and tips for Monday’s racing at Plumpton, Kelso, and Wolverhampton.
Plumpton Best Bets
Race 1: CHASAMAX (2)
Trainer: Nicky Henderson
Jockey: Nico de Boinville
Although not one of the novice stars from Seven Barrows, CHASAMAX has a fine chance of opening his account in the opener, having skipped a number of opportunities to wait for this. He ran into a decent type in Tea Clipper at Kempton but was not disgraced in finishing second and should be too good for his foes.
Race 4: HIDEAWAY VIC (2)
Trainer: Anthony Honeyball
Jockey: Rex Dingle
HIDEAWAY VIC ran into the progressive Young Bull and had to play second fiddle to that foe at Ffos Las and has enjoyed a nice break subsequently. He’s got the ability to step up from that first outing of the season, and though this is a bit of a teaser, in which and one of the five can win, he will do for me.
Kelso Best Bets
Race 1: SIRWILLIAMWALLACE (6)
Trainer: Sandy Thomson
Jockey: Ryan Mania
With very few miles on the clock SIRWILLIAMWALLACE looks worth backing after leaving the cash behind on his latest start at Ayr. He seemed to do everything right until cut down by the useful MAROWN and faced noth8ng of that calibre.
Race 5: LAKE VIEW LAD (1)
Trainer: Nick Alexander
Jockey: Henry Brooke
It’s a long time since LAKE VIEW LAD last ran over hurdles but the gelding looked to be approaching his peak when third in the Rowland Meyrick Chase at Wetherby. He’s not badly treated in this discipline and can successfully give away a stack of weight to his five opponents.
Race 6: BLACK PIRATE (1)
Trainer: James Ewart
Jockey: Brian Hughes
Having skipped an opportunity last week to wait for this less competitive maiden hurdle, KID COMMANDO can transfer the quality of his bumper form over to jumps. The 6yo was taking on some on the best in that field when finishing in mid-division behind Israel Champ at Ascot and is highly regarded by his astute trainer.
Wolverhampton Best Bets
Race 1: GREENGAGE (7)
Trainer: Tristan Davidson
Jockey: Miss Rachel Huskisson
The hooded GREENGAGE has been in the form of her life, showing a marked preference for this Tapeta surface on which she’s won on three of her last four starts. She looks for all the world like she wants this longer trip and is very hard to oppose.
