Race 5
This looks to be a tricky race to start off the day’s Jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. INVINCIBLE WHIP had his consistency rewarded with a two-length victory last time out over seven furlongs, when striking the front at the top of the home straight and then holding off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. He returns from a 22-week break, but has had the benefit of two barrier trials and although facing a wide draw eleven, he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.
Two 3-year-old fillies could chase him home, with the slight preference going to SCHOLL DEEP, who is seldom far off the action, finishing third last time out over six furlongs, just under one and a half lengths back from the winner, but she was making good late progress in that event. From gate seven, she should turn in another honest performance here.
ALL TOO SNEAKY has finished second in two of her last three starts, the latest over seven furlongs, beaten just a head, when returning from a 20-week rest. She came four wide into the home straight that day, but stayed on well over the closing stages. The filly gets a handy draw two and will have 2kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice.
Race 6
DANCES WITH HOOVES is a 3-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she has won two of her last three outings, the latest over a mile by putting 4.8L between herself and the opposition, this despite coming wide into the home stretch. The form of that race has also stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning and although drawn wideish in gate eight, she looks to be the one to side with in this line-up.
KINGDOM OF LOGRES has consistent formlines to his name and was slow away and had to weave his way through traffic down the home straight when ending up in third place last time out over seven furlongs, just over two lengths back from the winner. He was returning from a 38-week spell that day and from his wide draw fourteen, he should be doing his best work late.
UNCLE HARRY followed up his penultimate run victory over 1300M with a thirteenth-place finish next time out over seven furlongs, 6.8Lback from the winner. He on the other hand has a useful draw two and will be having his peak run after returning from a 13-week rest.
Race 7
KAYOBI has consistent formlines to her credit and was bumped at the start when finishing second last time out over 1300M, just under a half-length behind the winner, but he was reported to have bled that day and was suspended for three months. The gelding returns here after the 25-week absence, but has had two barrier trials. From draw seven, he will be hoping to return to winning ways and is taken to be the value bet on the day’s card.
TERRA MATER is a 4-year-old filly taking on males, but she missed out on her hat-trick after victories over six furlongs and 1300M when finishing fourth last time out over six furlongs, one and a half lengths off the winner. It should however be noted that she raced wide throughout that day and was hampered at the 250M mark, so she had her excuses. The filly is drawn one outside the top pick and should be right up there when they hit the line.
WILLINGA FREEFALL won over 1300M three runs back, finished second his penultimate start over seven furlongs and then third in his latest outing over six furlongs, 1.3L behind the winner. He was returning from a 12-week rest that day and was bumped at the start, before having to be switched at the 150M pole to obtain a clear run. From his kinder draw two, he should not be easily overlooked.
Race 8
The day’s best bet, FIDDLERS GREEN has finished second in his last two outings since returning from a 21-week spell, the latest over 1500M, just a neck behind the winner, but he was bumped at the start and came the widest of them all into the home stretch in that contest. The gelding will have to negotiate a wide gate eleven, but he gets the services of non-claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd, and will be hoping to go one better today.
Two 3-year-old fillies could hunt him home, with HELLBENT ON YOU getting the nod for second spot. She put 5.3L between herself and her rivals when winning her maiden race last time out over 1300M, notwithstanding losing a near-hind shoe. She takes on stronger here, but may well be up to the task at hand, jumping from gate five.
AUNTY RENE has consistent formlines to her name and followed up her penultimate run victory over seven furlongs with a fifth-place finish next time out over a mile, 2.2L back from the winner, but she was bumped at the start and shifted out over the latter stages in that event. The filly will have to deal with a wide gate thirteen, but she is a speedy sort who should be able to work her way across without using up too much gas.
