Race 2: MISS APHRODITE(1)
Jockey: D Yeo- Trainer: C Spies
Jockey: D Yeo- Trainer: C Spies
The speedy filly MISS APHRODITE is in good form having finished runner-up in her last two c & d runs but she will be severely tested with top weight in mixed company here. That said, she has the beating of veteran campaigner KALIDAR on their clash late last month.
TOP BET FOR TODAY
Race 5: RED SPECIAL(1)
Jockey: R Munger – Trainer: S Miller
The best weighted entrant RED SPECIAL was pipped by FIRST SEA LORD over seven furlongs recently but the engaging of a top young jockey could make all the difference for the bay gelding here. The son of Kahal is equally effective over this mile as his record proves and of course he is 1.5kgs better off with his conqueror.
Race 6: NETHERBY HALL(5)
Jockey: Wesley Marwing – Trainer: M Prinsloo
NETHERBY HALL has bounced strongly back to form in recent outings and he meets his recent conqueror RIVER RAFTER on 4kgs favourable terms for the half a length deficit suffered late last month. The 4th placed entrant Manouche boosted that formline with a subsequent victory and this veteran gelding proved his worth over this distance with a facile triumph in his penultmate showing. The bay filly was thrashed by the first selection over this c & d that day and she could struggle to reverse the form on the unfavourable weight turnaround.
Race 10: TALK WRENCH(1)
Jockey: M Yeni – Trainer: P Smith
Jockey: M Yeni – Trainer: P Smith
TALK WRENCH is a smart three-year old who has bounced right back to his best in recent performances. He followed up his emphatic c & d win in his penultimate effort with an encouraging sprint behind Harrison (runs in race 7) three weeks ago. The chestnut colt has a big mass to shoulder in open company today but he drops heavily in class and should still prove tough to beat. Top jockey Muzi Yeni retains the ride.
VALUE BET FOR TODAY
Race 4: MOUNT ASHER(2)
Jockey: E Pheiffer- Trainer: D Cason
Jockey: E Pheiffer- Trainer: D Cason
MOUNT ASHER clearly has her issues but the lightly raced four-year-old has sprinted well in recent efforts and she will be cherry-ripe today. Her pedigree indicates that she should easily handle the step-up to the mile but her wide barrier is a slight worry.
