International Racing: Albany – Friday 15 May 2020

An open looking eight-race programme is scheduled for Albany on Friday. The best bet on the card is DON’T OVERTAKE in Race 2. She has finished just off the winner in all four of her career starts to date. The daughter of War Chant doesn’t meet the strongest line-up today and she should shed her maiden tag.

Race 1
This is a small field of just five runners and it looks to be a boat race between two horses. MAGNUSON MAN has some decent recent form to his credit. He was quite strong when setting the pace in his last start before being outrun in the final 100m. Lisa Staples who rode the son of Magnus last time retains the ride and the pair may be hard to peg back in the closing stages. BLONDE WARRIOR is a filly taking on the males. She stayed on well at the business end of her last start when finishing third. She tries the mile for the first time and the manner in which she races suggests that the extra distance on offer should be right up her alley. Natasha Faithfull remains in the saddle today and the pair merit healthy respect.

Race 2
DON’T OVERTAKE is the best bet on today’s card. Her last two starts over this course and distance have been very good. She stayed on well at the business end of her last race when finishing a length behind the winner. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Natasha Faithfull has ridden her three times for two seconds and a third-place finish. This isn’t the strongest of fields and she should take a power of beating. MY NAME’S STAR finished four lengths behind the top selection in her last start. As the pair meet on the same weight terms this afternoon, she may have to settle for the same result. However, she gets the services of jockey Alan Kennedy for the first time and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.

Race 3
DEANGLES has good consistent form lines to his credit. The manner in which he stayed on when finishing third over six furlongs on this course was encouraging. The son of Demerit loves racing on this track having won twice, finishing second twice and third on six occasions from thirteen outings. He is drawn in pole position today and should get rewarded for consistency. BLACK MISSILE ran a fair race in his last start over this course and distance. He was making steady progress up the straight to finish fourth. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Jockey Natasha Faithfull who has ridden him to victory twice, retains the ride and the pair cannot be ignored today.

Race 4
FANGIO was an impressive maiden winner in her last start over this course and distance. She does take a step up in class this afternoon, but she is lightly raced and looks to have plenty of scope. It is encouraging that jockey Kyra Yuill keeps the ride aboard the daughter of Husson this afternoon and the pair should be the ones to side with here. STARAUTHORESS is much better than her last start suggests. She produced two good runs prior to that when finishing third on this course. Jade McNaught does duty once again and from pole position, she could be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top selection.

Race 5
TAKE ME HOME HONEY is one of the better bets on this afternoon’s programme. She moved up like a winner in her last start over this course and distance but was overhauled in the final 100m. She is having a good season thus far having won twice, finishing second five times and third once from fourteen outings. Kyra Yuill has ridden her three times for two wins and a second-place finish. From pole position, she should take a power of beating. MR PAGO won his last start well when getting the better of the top selection. He won by 1.3 lengths that day but is 1.5kgs worse off at the weights this afternoon and that may be enough for the tables to be turned. However, with a record of seven wins, six seconds, and six third-place finishes from 28 outings on this course, he cannot be ignored.

Race 6
SENSO is the value bet on the card this afternoon. He has finished runner-up in his last two starts on this course. He likes racing over this course and distance having finished second twice and third once from four starts. Lisa Staples has struck up a good relationship with the son of Street Sense and the pair could get back to winning ways here. MAGIC OPUS is not the most consistent sort, but her last start over six furlongs on this course was decent. She has won three times, finished second three times and third twice from eleven outings over this course and distance. She gets the services of a 3kg claiming apprentice this afternoon and may be the one to pick up the pieces should the top choice fluff his lines.

Race 7
KENDEL’S MEE DAD was an impressive winner of his last start over 1500m on this course. He raced from a handy position that day, took over the lead at the 100m mark and drew off for the victory with ease. He is having his peak run this afternoon and there should be more to come from the son of Kendel Star. Chris Nicoll steps back into the saddle and the pair should find themselves in the winner’s enclosure. WILD FUSION’S last two starts at Ascot have been fair. His record of five wins from seven starts on this course is impressive. He gets the services of a 3kg claiming apprentice this afternoon and on best form shown should be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top selection.

Race 8
WILLOW RIVER is in top form and she is a winner of her last two starts over this course and distance. She has done well over track and trip having won three times and finishing third once from six attempts. Alan Kennedy who was aboard the daughter of Maschino in her last victory retains the ride and she has a good chance of notching up the hat-trick. APOLLO has not finished too far off the winner in his last four starts. He should have finished closer to the winner in his last outing as he was blocked for a run until the 125m mark. It must be noted that four horses from that form line have come out and won since. With a bit of luck in running, he should be right there in the run down to the wire.
