Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: HARAKIRI(4)
Jockey: Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

HARAKIRI had a poor first experience around the turn at Durbanville last time but she had useful form on this track prior to that. She does seem most effective down the straight for now and she represents the Navarone c & d formline. The daughter of Trippi ran on steadily on her debut in the event referred to above and she has improved since. She could be a big threat in this field.

Race 4: JINGLE BELLE(3)

Jockey: Grant VAN NIEKERK – Trainer: Willem A NEL

The filly JINGLE BELLE has shown promise to date and the blinkers have turned her fortunes around. She may have just needed her comeback run when staying on for 2nd behind a decent type over nine furlongs, three weeks ago and will strip much fitter now. The well-related grey filly is bred to relish this rise in distance and she should be very competitive despite taking on male rivals for the first time. She goes well handy so could profit from a likely sedate gallop.

Race 7: RODNEY(1)

Jockey: Grant VAN NIEKERK – Trainer: Candice BASS-ROBINSON

RODNEY is a classy, lightly raced grey gelding with solid credentials and despite little going his way over this c & d last time, the son of Tapit got up for the narrow victory. He was returning from a 20-week absence on that occasion so will strip much fitter now and he is best in on official ratings. The Bass-Robinson inmate should take a power of beating in this line-up.

Top Bet

Race 9: MISSION CONTROL(3)

Jockey: Robert KHATHI – Trainer: Paddy KRUYER

MISSION CONTROL is the only entrant from his yard on this card and he boasts solid form in his three appearances to date. The four-year-old bay gelding was an impressive debut winner over this c & d and he followed that up with two useful subsequent efforts at handicap level. He would have strengthened during his ten-week rest and clearly, has plenty more to offer. The son of Captain Al drops in class and his yard had a winner at this venue recently.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 8: CAPTAIN’S DOVE(7)
Jockey: Francois HERHOLDT – Trainer: Brett CRAWFORD

CAPTAIN’S DOVE isn’t the stable elect but she could be the right one, purely on the Varumba c & d run on 21/06. The bay mare had a poor last seven-furlong attempt from a bad draw in yielding conditions but she had solid sprint form prior to that, including that close-up 3rd in the event referred to above. She finished comfortably ahead of her stablemate SAILS SET that day and is now 2.5kgs better off at the weights.
