Race 2: OCEANS TRIP(10)
Jockey: Bernard FAYD’HERBE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

There are numerous first timers to be wary of in this juvenile contest and the betting market will be the best indicator. However, experience could be key and the twice raced OCEANS TRIP will make that count. The Justin Snaith inmate has produced two quality efforts over this c & d to date. The speedy son of Trippi was 2nd best last time out but interestingly, the 3rd placed finisher Nation Glow is carded to contest the Nursery later on today.

Race 3: TRIBAL FUSION(3)
Jockey: Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Shane HUMBY

TRIBAL FUSION
benefitted from the rest and he bounced right back to best with a cracking last c & d run in late March. The well-related Trippi gelding finished well for a close 2nd and was in turn just over two lengths clear of the next placed runner. He would have strengthened further from that showing and clearly has more to offer. The chestnut gelding is his stable’s sole representative on this card and Richard Fourie has been tasked with getting him to go one better.

Top Bet
Race 6: THE MERRY WIDOW(8)
Jockey: Bernard FAYD”HERBE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

A quality field of eight fillies line-up for this Grade 3 contest with two runners placing their unbeaten records at risk. THE MERRY WIDOW should be all the rage after she recently completed a hat trick of wins when she ran on well to beat the expensive purchase LIVE LIFE by half a length over this c & d, also in a feature, three weeks ago. She is 3kgs better off with the runner-up and the Justin Snaith inmate looks a smart prospect in the making. The daughter of Captain Al will be cherry-ripe on her third run after a layoff.

Race 7: BISHOP’S BOUNTY(2)
Jockey: Bernard FAYD’HERBE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

The classy BISHOP’S BOUNTY would have strengthened well during his ten week absence and he comes here searching for a hat-trick of wins. The good-looking son of Western Winter was impressive in his last win and he appears headed for the tops. This will be a real test for the Snaith inmate who should be followed with plenty of confidence.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 5: VAN DAM’S FORCE(12)
Jockey: Craig BANTMAN – Trainer: Riaan VAN REENEN

This is another tricky fillies and mares handicap but the formline that could dominate is the Katies Jay run over nine furlongs on 16/04. The value runner could be the exposed three-year old filly VAN DAM’S FORCE who is incredibly having her 25th career start. She is an average sort but the 4kgs apprentice allowance and collateral form bring her right into contention. The change in tactics seemed to work as the bay filly made late progress to be beaten just over three lengths in the event referred to above and now she is weighted to reverse form with a few rivals. The likely decent gallop will play into her hands and she can cause a major upset.
