Race 8: STARSKY(15)

Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 3: GEMSGALORE(2)
Jockey: Keagan DE MELO – Trainer: Corinne BESTEL

GEMSGALORE is a speedy sort who has fared well to date despite some reliability issues. She put a disappointing penultimate run behind her when only tiring late into a decent 3rd over six furlongs on this track, two weeks ago. This minimum trip should suit her perfectly and her yard has turned the corner in recent weeks. The daughter of Mogok is her stable’s only runner on the card and she should continue to progress.

Race 4: ROCK ON BABY(5)

Jockey: Sean VEALE – Trainer: Dennis DRIER

There are some fast, decent types in this competitive handicap and an exciting finish is expected. The narrow first verdict goes to ROCK ON BABY from the Drier team. This speedy daughter of Seventh Rock faded badly in a Cape feature behind the brilliant subsequent Grade 1 winning Carry On Alice last time but would have benefitted from the break. She is highly rated by her yard and her two impressive back- to-back wins over this c & d last winter shows exactly why. She won’t be fully tuned-up but makes her handicap debut and has the class to be competitive.

Race 7: SOUTH PAW(7)
Jockey: Warren KENNEDY – Trainer: Chris ERASMUS

SOUTH PAW rises in class on his handicap debut but is consistent and looks set to develop into a decent stayer. He was given a great ride when he cruised past subsequent winner Fashion Dancer to win his maiden over this distance, three weeks ago. That victory earned the Spectrum gelding a five-pound penalty but he still has lots more to offer and his track experience will stand him in good stead. He has just over two lengths to find with subsequent winning filly FORBIDDEN DUEL on their meeting over this distance at Greyville on 16/03 but is now 3.5kgs to the good and can reverse the form.

TOP BET
Race 8: QUEENS DIAMOND(11)

Jockey: Diego De GOUVEIA – Trainer: Alyson WRIGHT

QUEENS DIAMOND has been shrewdly placed by her conditioner & the only representative of the fairer sex will enjoy a handy 4kgs apprentice allowance. She had two shocking recent performances on the polytrack but produced an excellent debut over this c & d, prior to that. The daughter of Bankable is favourably drawn and she can certainly bounce back to form on the grass

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 6: ROYAL ZULU GUARD(2)
Jockey: Anthony DELPECH – Trainer: Kumaran NAIDOO

ROYAL ZULU GUARD is erratic but is certainly capable at this level and he continues to steadily drop in the ratings. He ran on smartly for 3rd behind Royal Master in his penultimate start on the grass but fluffed his lines on the polytrack subsequently. He has changed stables since and won his only c & d effort. The six-year-old gelding gets the expert services of in-form jockey Anthony Delpech.
