Sundowns were impressive in the previous round of the continental competition as they ended on top of Group A with four wins, one draw and one loss to secure their match-up with Yanga, who ended as runners up in Group D, with two wins, two draws and two losses.

Onyango has seen his game-time limited this season to just eight games in all comeptitions, including two appearances in the Champions League. His side made it to the semi-finals last season, where they were eliminated by Wydad Casablanca on the away goals rule.

The centre-back said in the Sowetan: “Champions League is very tough. So any minimal advantage you get while you start away, you grab it with both hands because it helps in the second leg.

“They are a good team with top players and their passionate supporters behind them, so we expect a difficult encounter.”

The only other time Sundowns played Yanga was in the second preliminary round of the Champions League in 2001 and they won 6-5 on aggregate.
