The Citizens have had an underwhelming start to the year with a solitary win across all competitions in 2024.

Tinkler’s troops sit fifth in the standings with 31 points in 20 matches.

The 53-year-old tactician believes that injuries to his squad are behind the indifferent results for his team. City also suffered back-to-back losses before the FIFA international break.

“Our start hasn’t been great this second half, this is the opportunity to fix certain areas of our game that are extremely important,” said Tinkler.

“There were a lot of injuries, we had suspensions, players moving so I don’t think the concentration was there.”

“The FIFA break came at a good time we needed to try work on certain areas of our game, try to get certain players back fit that were key for us prior to the break.”

“And make some new signings aware of our expectations of them the way we play.”

“It’s a game against Chiefs and players should be highly motivated knowing that it’s a big club,” explained the Bafana legend.

City got better of the Glamour Boys in the first round of the season where they secured a 1-0 victory at FNB Stadium thanks to a Khanyisa Mayo goal.

“It’s important for us to try and get back to winning ways and no better team to do it against than Kaizer Chiefs.”

“I think they are a different team to when we play them at the beginning of the season and it’s not going to be easy, it’s going to be tough,” he concluded.

Both teams have played 15 games against each other, with the Cape Town-based side victors on seven occasions while the Soweto giants have won six.
