Chiefs first suffered a 1-0 defeat to an in-form Stellenbosch side who have registered an incredible unbeaten run of 23 matches. Johnson’s side then succumbed to Chippa United in a 2-0 defeat away from home before their most recent demoralising defeat to basement side Richards Bay on Sunday.

Johnson largely lambasted his side’s inability to convert their chances in front of goal with Amakhosi having failed to hit the back of the net in their last four league encounters.

The 65-year-old admitted after Sunday’s defeat that a lack of finishing alongside off-field circumstances such as the recent death of Fluers may be affecting results.

“The mood in the camp has been up and down over the last few days,” Johnson said.

“You find out that one of your players, one of my children is gone. In one moment you are sending your condolences to the family, then in the next moment, you are talking to the players about their feelings.

“But, the players did look as if they came through that, but I’m not a psychologist. So from a football perspective, I can only say that today’s performance and the effort, it looked like it.

“So, that’s the only way I can answer that.”

Chiefs will next host former coach Gavin Hunt’s SuperSport United in a DStv Premiership encounter at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 17:30.
