Misfiring Chilli Boys will look to take their chances against Pirates

Morgan Mammila’s Chippa United welcome Jose Riveiro’s Orlando Pirates at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium for their DStv Premiership 3rd round encounter on Tuesday evening.

Pirates are currently in 6th position after winning one and losing one game in their opening two fixtures. Sitting in 11th spot are Chippa United who are yet to find the back of the net this season.

But after dismantling Sekhukhune United in the MTN8 this past weekend, the Sea Robbers will come into this clash high in confidence of claiming maximum points in Gqeberha, especially with the Chilli Boys still struggling to find the back of the net in these early stages of the new campaign.

For Mammila, the pressure is slowly mounting after two consecutive goalless draws against Kaizer Chiefs and TS Galaxy. They face Mamelodi Sundowns after Pirates, and I cannot see them getting anything out of both fixtures.

These sides also met around the same time last season for their first leg encounter, where Chippa United were 1-0 victors on the 14th of August 2022, courtesy of Abdi Banda’s late goal.

But Pirates were a totally different beast when the sides met again in the second leg in April earlier this year, with Kabelo Dlamini and Thembinkosi Lorch getting on the score sheet as the Sea Robbers cruised to a 2-0 victory.

Predicted Line-ups

Jose Riveiro will rely on the backline combination of on Monyane, Sibisi, Xoki and Mako to improve on their last two perfomrances, and maybe keep a clean sheet against the Cilli Boys.

Up front, Zakhele Lepasa will look to add on his goal tally after a splendid start to the new season.

For Morgan Mammila, a third successive match without a goal would mean some trouble. The combination of Ndwandwe and Luthuli has not returned any goals in addition to a lack of supply for the pair.

Luvuyo Memela and Maarman could be trusted to try and penetrate that solid Pirates defence.

Chippa United

Nwabili, Mdunyelwa, Petersen, Chabalala, Ntsabo, Lebitso, Magwaka, Mulenga, Mosele, Memela, Maarman.

Orlando Pirates

Chaine, Monyane, Sibisi, Xoki, Mako, Ndlondlo, Monare, Saleng, Maswanganyi, Mofokeng, Lepasa
