International Racing: Wednesday 20 May 2020 – Happy Valley

A competitive nine-race programme is scheduled for Happy Valley on Wednesday. The best bet on the night is SIMPLY FLUKE who is in Race 6. He was an impressive winner of his last two starts over tonight’s course and distance. He meets the same company and should notch up the hat-trick this evening. With regards to the Jockey’s Championship, it is all square at the top with both Joao Moreira and Zac Purton on 117 winners. Both jockeys have a full book of rides tonight and they will both be looking to edge clear going into the weekend.

Race 1
HAPPY GOOD GUYS was his own worst enemy last time as he was
very slow out the barriers and understandably never got into the race. He
produced some good form over this course and distance prior to that race. Joao
Moreira who has won on the son of Zoustar in the past, steps back into the
saddle tonight and if jumping on terms, should get back to winning ways. MANAGEMENT SUPREME showed good improvement to finish runner-up
in his last start over this course and distance. He had a share of the lead
turning for home and was caught in the closing stages. Vincent Ho retains the
ride tonight and if repeating that effort, the combination should be right
there in the run down to the wire. FARM
BUMPER’S
last three starts over the
minimum trip on this course have been very good. He is yet to shape over the
six furlongs, but the manner in which he is finishing his races off recently
suggests that he will enjoy the extra furlong on offer. Chad Schofield knows
him well and the pair cannot be ignored on current form.
Race 2
SHADOW BREAKER was a surprise winner in his last start over
this course and distance. Chad Schofield took him to the front that day and the
pair kept on well up the straight to hold off all challengers. If repeating
that effort this evening, the combination should notch up a quick double. DIONYSUS COLLIN has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He has a fair
record over this course and distance having finished second three times and
third once from six starts. Zac Purton rides the son of Dream Ahead for the
first time and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it
matters most. SALTO OLIMPICO showed good signs of a form return in his
last start over eleven furlongs on this course. It must be noted that jockey
Joao Moreira who is aboard the son of Holy Roman Emperor tonight, has ridden
him once for a win. From a mid-field barrier position, he must be included in
all bets.
Race 3
LIGHTNING STEED ran a good race when finishing fourth over
this course and distance last time. He set the pace that day and was only
caught in the final 100m. The son of California Dane has won once, finished
second once and third once from six starts over this track and trip. Joao
Moreira retains the ride this evening and the combination should find themselves
in the winner’s enclosure.
BLOOMING SPIRIT
has very good
consistent form lines to his credit. He has won twice, finished second once and
third once from as many starts over this course and distance. Chad Schofield
rides for the first time and the pair should be the ones to throw out the
biggest challenge to the top selection. FOCUS looked a winner in
his last start over this course and distance but was caught in the final 100m.
The son of Per Incanto has found a new lease on life since Karis Teetan stepped
into the saddle having won once and finishing second once from as many starts.
If continuing his good run of form, the pair should be right there in the run
down to the finishing post.
Race 4
FLYING GENIUS’ last two starts over this distance have been
good, but he has found one better on the day in the run down to the wire. His
record over this trip is decent having won twice and finishing second twice
from six attempts. Karis Teetan knows the son of All Too Hard well and he will
be looking to get the horses nose down in front this evening. EXPLOSIVE WITNESS has not finished too far off the winner in
his last four starts. He ran a good race on the all-weather surface at Sha Tin
last time considering he raced three wide around the turn. Joao Moreira does
duty for the first time this evening and he may be able to get the best out of
the son of Star Witness in the run down to the wire. BE READY should have finished closer to the winner in his last start over this course
and distance as he was hampered at the 700m mark and 400m mark. He also had to
check at the 500m mark. Zac Purton retains the ride aboard the son of Love
Conquers All and with a bit of luck in running, he should be involved in the
fight out to the finish.
Race 5
ARES is one of the better
bets on this evening’s programme. He is lightly raced having just had the three
runs to date. He won his penultimate start over this distance and followed that
run up with a good second-place finish. He should have finished closer to the
winner last time as he had to check at the 700m mark, but the manner in which
he rallied up the straight was eye-catching. Zac Purton does duty aboard the
son of Zicanto once again and the pair should be hard to beat. MONKEY JEWELLERY’S last two starts have been decent. He raced
from a handy position in his last start over this course and distance and kept
on well at the business end. Jockey Joao Moreira has ridden nine times for two
wins, two seconds and two third place finishes. He is likely to race on the
speed once again and he may be hard to peg back in the closing stages. HARMONY N HOME is not the most consistent sort, but he ran a good race over this course
and distance last time. He gets the services of a claiming apprentice this
evening which should help his cause. With a bit of luck from the wide barrier
position, he should be right there in the run down to the wire.
Race 6
The best bet on the
card tonight is SIMPLY FLUKE from the Douglas Whyte stable. He was an
impressive winner of his last start when running on from the back of the field
over this course and distance. He meets similar company this evening and
despite the wide barrier position, he should notch up the hat-trick of wins. DESTINE JEWELLERY’S recent form has been good. He didn’t get off
to the best of starts last time, but the manner in which he finished off his
race that day was eye-catching. If getting away on terms this evening, he
should be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top selection. INTERSTELLAR is slowly returning to his best form. He ran a good race when finishing
second over this course and distance last time. He set the pace that day and
was only caught in the final 30m. He has cracked a good draw this evening and
with Neil Callan retaining the ride, he should be hard to peg back in the run
down to the finishing post.
Race 7
GREEN REIGN has not finished too far off the winner in
recent outings. He was bumped at the start last time, but managed to find
himself in a handy position before staying on well up the straight. He does
have a wide barrier position to negotiate this evening, but he gets the
services of Joao Moreira who will give him all the necessary assistance from
the saddle. MAGNIFICENT has finished runner-up in his last two starts
over this course and distance under tonight’s pilot, Dylan Mo. He set the pace
in his last outing but was pipped in the shadow of the post. The son of Zebedee
jumps from a good barrier position this evening and may be hard to peg back in
the closing stages. CHAIRMAN LO has some decent recent form lines to his
credit. He stayed on well at the finish last time before getting crowded in the
latter stages. Karis Teetan steps back into the saddle this evening and with a
bit of luck from a wide barrier position, the pair should be right there in the
run down to the finishing post.
Race 8
BEAUTY SPARK is the value bet on tonight’s card. He has
very good consistent form lines to his credit. He raced from a handy position
last time, despite doing it the hard way three wide around the turn, he stayed
on well to finish second. He has won once, finished second once and third five
times over this course and distance. Apprentice Victor Wong has ridden him
twice for a win and a second-place finish. With a bit of luck from the wide
draw, he should be the one they all have to beat. CALIFORNIADEEPSHOT is never
far off the winner. He has won once, finished second once and third once from
five starts over this course and distance. Joao Moreira rides the son of Deep
Field once again and should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one
to pick up the pieces. GOLDEN
DASH
has good recent form to his
name. He has won twice, finished second once and third once from seven attempts
over this distance. He runs well for tonight’s jockey Zac Purton having won
twice and finishing third once from as many starts. From pole position, the son
of Snitzel merits healthy respect.

Race 9
This is a
competitive race to end the night’s programme and caution is advised. The
narrow first selection is AMAZING
STAR
with Zac Purton in the saddle.
He won a good race over this course and distance last time, picking up the lead
at the 300m mark and fighting hard all the way to the wire. He has won four
times from six attempts over this track and trip. From his mid-field barrier
position, he should be the one to side with here. THIS IS CLASS is a winner
of his last three starts. He has won four times and finished second twice from
as many outings over this course and distance. His wide draw shouldn’t pose a
concern as he is likely to use his early gate speed to get across without using
up too much energy. SHINING ACE ran a good race last time despite getting
hampered on the turn. He runs well for Joao Moreira having won three times,
finishing second twice and third once from eleven starts. He jumps from a good
draw this evening and merits obvious inclusion.
